Resource Gathering & Scavenging
Survival in the wasteland hinges on your ability to gather essential resources. Scavenging is a fundamental activity in Fallout 76, providing the raw materials needed for crafting weapons, armor, aid items, and building your C.A.M.P. Every nook and cranny of Appalachia is a potential source of valuable junk, from the screws and springs found in desk fans to the circuitry and copper in toasters. Prioritize collecting "Junk" items that break down into useful components, as these are the building blocks of your post-apocalyptic existence. Understanding which items yield which components is key to efficient scavenging.
Key crafting components include Adhesive (from Wonderglue, Duct Tape), Aluminum (from Cans, TV Dinner Trays), Circuitry (from Telephones, Hot Plates), Gears (from Typewriters, Desk Fans), Lead (from Weights, Pencils), Oil (from Coolant, Vegetable Oil), Screws (from Desk Fans, Toy Cars), Springs (from Clipboards, Typewriters), Steel (from Tin Cans, Wrench), and Wood (from Brooms, Lumber).
Beyond junk, you'll need to gather specific resources like "Flux" for crafting high-end items and "Stable" versions of certain components, which often require specialized crafting processes or rare ingredients. "Scrap Kits" can be found or purchased, allowing you to instantly scrap all junk in your inventory. Additionally, "Workshops" scattered across the map can be captured and defended to provide a steady stream of specific resources, such as steel from a lumber mill or water from a purifier. Managing your inventory space and prioritizing which junk to collect will become second nature as you become more experienced.
