Workbenches are indispensable tools in Fallout 76, allowing players to craft, modify, and repair a vast array of items essential for survival and progression. Mastering the use of each workbench is crucial for any aspiring dweller of Appalachia.

The Essential Workbenches

Players will encounter several types of workbenches scattered throughout the wasteland, and can also build them at their C.A.M.P.:

  • Weapon Workbench: Used for crafting new weapons, modifying existing ones with various attachments (scopes, stocks, receivers), and repairing them.
  • Armor Workbench: Allows for the crafting and modification of armor pieces, including adding resistances, improving durability, and changing their appearance.
  • Chemistry Workbench: Essential for crafting chems (medications), explosives, and other chemical compounds. This is where you'll make Stimpaks, RadAway, grenades, and more.
  • Tinker's Workbench: Used for crafting and repairing miscellaneous items, including power armor mods, junk items, and certain utility items.
  • Cooking Station: Allows players to cook raw food items into more beneficial meals, removing negative effects and providing better buffs for hunger and hydration.
  • Power Armor Station: A special station where you can craft and modify Power Armor chassis and its individual pieces.
  • Artillery Station: Allows you to craft artillery pieces for your C.A.M.P. that can be used to bombard areas.
  • Jukebox, Radio, and Musical Instruments: While not for crafting gear, these provide ambiance and can sometimes be used for specific quests or role-playing.

Crafting Mechanics

To use a workbench, you simply interact with it. You will then see a list of craftable items. Each item requires specific components (junk items) and sometimes a specific perk card to craft or modify. The required components are displayed next to each item.

  • Component Requirements: Common components include Steel, Wood, Screws, Adhesive, Gears, and Springs.
  • Perk Requirements: Some advanced modifications or items may require specific perk cards to be equipped.
  • Plans and Recipes: You must first learn the plan or recipe for an item before you can craft it at the appropriate workbench.

Repairing Items

Workbenches are also used to repair your weapons, armor, and power armor. Repairing consumes some of the same components used for crafting. The condition of an item is displayed, and repairing it restores its durability.

C.A.M.P. Placement

When building your C.A.M.P., strategically placing your workbenches is important. Grouping them together can save time and make crafting more efficient. Ensure you have enough space and power to accommodate all the workbenches you wish to build.

Tips for Efficient Crafting

  • Scrap Junk Regularly: Always scrap junk items at a workbench to organize your components.
  • Collect Components: Be mindful of the components needed for your desired crafts and actively scavenge for them.
  • Learn Plans and Recipes: Prioritize learning plans for items you want to craft, especially those that offer sificant advantages.
  • Invest in Crafting Perks: Perks like "Blacksmith" (for weapons) and "Armorer" (for armor) can reduce the component cost of repairs and crafting.
  • Utilize the Stash Box: Store excess components and crafting materials in your Stash Box to keep your inventory manageable.
