Welcome to Fallout 76
Step out of Vault 76 and into the vast, post-nuclear wilderness of Appalachia. As one of the first Vault Dwellers to emerge on Reclamation Day, your mission is to help rebuild America. The world is a dangerous place, filled with mutated creatures, rogue robots, and the remnants of a society that couldn't survive the Great War. This guide will help you get started on your journey.
Your initial moments outside the Vault are critical. You'll be tasked with following the Overseer's trail, which will lead you through the early quests and introduce you to the fundamental mechanics of Fallout 76. Pay close attention to the environment; every discarded note, every abandoned terminal, and every mutated creature tells a part of the story of what happened here. The world of Appalachia is rich with lore, and uncovering it is as important as survival itself.
Key early objectives will include:
- Finding the Overseer's Stash: This will guide you through the initial steps of exploration and resource gathering.
- Learning to Craft: You'll need to utilize crafting stations to create weapons, armor, and essential survival items.
- Understanding Combat: Familiarize yourself with the V.A.T.S. system and direct combat to defend yourself against threats.
- Interacting with NPCs: While the initial experience is largely solo, you'll soon encounter friendly NPCs who offer quests and guidance.
As you progress, you'll encounter various factions, each with their own ideologies and goals. The Responders, a group dedicated to helping survivors, are often your first point of contact. Later, you'll meet the Raiders, who have adapted to the harsh realities of the wasteland, and the Settlers, who are trying to establish a new, organized society. Understanding these groups will be vital as you navigate the complex political landscape of post-war Appalachia.
Don't be afraid to explore. Appalachia is a massive world with hidden secrets, valuable loot, and challenging encounters around every corner. Your C.A.M.P. (Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform) will be your mobile base, allowing you to set up shop wherever you find a suitable location. Use it to craft, store items, and rest.
This initial phase of the game is about learning the ropes. Experiment with different weapons, try out various perks, and don't be discouraged by early setbacks. The wasteland is unforgiving, but with perseverance and a bit of luck, you can carve out a place for yourself and contribute to the future of Appalachia.
