Companions Guide

Companions in Fallout: New Vegas can significantly impact your gameplay, offering combat support and unique abilities. One of the earliest companions you can recruit is ED-E, an Eyebot found at the Mojave Outpost. Repairing ED-E will allow you to bring this loyal companion along on your adventures across the Mojave Wasteland.

The game features various companions, each with their own recruitment quests and backstories. While the main quest "They Went That-a-Way" is the third Main Quest in Fallout: New Vegas, your journey to recruit companions can begin much earlier. Side Quests also frequently involve or lead to companion recruitment opportunities.

For those diving into the game's downloadable content (DLC), companions are handled differently. For instance, in the Old World Blues DLC, after picking up a strange broadcast and investigating the Mojave Drive-In, a satellite activates between 11 PM and 3 AM, teleporting you to Big MT. In this particular DLC, gear is allowed, but companions are not. Completing the prompt begins the Old World Blues adventure.

Another example of companion interaction within DLC is during the Sierra Madre Gala Event. After placing all companions, the Courier ascends the bell tower in Campanas del Sol to activate the event. With fireworks and music, the Sierra Madre gates unlock, and the Courier fights through ghost people and speakers to return to the Villa, triggering the next stage of the DLC.
