One of the first significant opportunities to earn Caps is by assisting Sunny Smiles. For helping her clear the wells, you are rewarded with 50 Caps, in addition to 50 XP and an improved reputation in Goodsprings. This demonstrates that even simple tasks can contribute to your financial well-being. Furthermore, if you successfully save a Goodsprings Settler from Geckos during these early encounters, you'll receive three bottles of Purified Water, which can be used or sold for additional Caps.

As you venture beyond Goodsprings, continuing to complete both Main Quests and Side Quests will be your primary method for earning Caps.
