Enemies & Bestiary

The Mojave Wasteland is a dangerous ecosystem, populated by a diverse array of hostile creatures, mutated beings, and desperate survivors. Understanding the different types of enemies you'll encounter, their strengths, weaknesses, and typical behaviors is fundamental to survival. This bestiary provides an overview of the common and unique threats that await the Courier.

Humans: This broad category includes various hostile human factions and individuals. Raiders are common, driven by desperation and violence. Caesar's Legion soldiers are disciplined and brutal warriors. NCR troopers, while often allied, can be hostile if provoked or if you're on the wrong side of a conflict. These enemies are generally susceptible to headshots and can be outmaneuvered with good positioning and V.A.T.S. targeting.

Ghouls: These are humans mutated by radiation, often becoming aggressive and feral. Feral Ghouls are fast, melee-focused enemies that can swarm their targets. They are vulnerable to fire and explosives but can inflict radiation damage with their bites. Some ghouls, like those in the Repconn Facility, might be more intelligent or have unique behaviors.

Super Mutants: Genetically engineered for combat, Super Mutants are large, strong, and resilient. They wield heavy weapons and are tough to take down with conventional firearms. Energy weapons and explosives are more effective against them. Their high Strength and Endurance make them formidable in close combat.

Robots: The Mojave is patrolled by various robotic units, from the ubiquitous Securitrons to more advanced Sentry Bots. Robots are highly resistant to ballistic weapons but are extremely vulnerable to energy weapons and explosives. The "Robotics Expert" perk is invaluable for dealing with them, allowing for instant kills or disabling them with a melee strike.

Creatures: The wasteland is home to several mutated wildlife.

  • Cazadores: Fast, flying insects with a deadly poison. They are a sificant threat, especially in groups. High-powered rifles and energy weapons are recommended.
  • Radscorpions: Burrowing arachnids that emerge to attack with venomous stingers. Listen for their sounds and be prepared for a quick strike.
  • Geckos: Small, reptilian creatures that often attack in packs. They are relatively weak but can overwhelm unprepared players.
  • Giant Mantises: Large, insectoid creatures found in certain areas, known for their swift melee attacks.

Mutated Beasts:

  • Deathclaws: The apex predators of the wasteland. Incredibly fast, strong, and durable, they are one of the most dangerous enemies in the game. They are vulnerable to explosives and sustained fire from high-powered weapons, but require careful strategy and preparation.
  • Nightkin: Stealth-enhanced Super Mutants who can turn invisible. They are highly paranoid and prone to hallucinations, making them unpredictable and terrifying. They are resistant to conventional weapons and can be difficult to track.
