Aid Items & Consumables
In the harsh Mojave Wasteland, survival often hinges on your ability to manage your inventory of aid items and consumables. These are the vital resources that restore your health, mend your limbs, cure ailments, and provide temporary buffs to your stats and skills. From basic bandages to potent chems, understanding their uses and where to find them is paramount for any Courier looking to thrive.
The most fundamental aid item is the Stimpak. These vials of potent healing serum instantly restore a sificant portion of your health. They are relatively common and can be found on fallen enemies, in medical cabinets, and purchased from vendors. Keep a healthy stock of Stimpaks, especially when venturing into dangerous areas. For more severe injuries, such as broken limbs, you'll need Doctor's Bags. These not only heal your health but also restore crippled limbs, which can severely impair your combat effectiveness and movement.
Beyond direct healing, the Mojave offers several chems that provide temporary but powerful boosts. Buffout increases your Strength and Endurance, making you hit harder and take more damage. Med-X sificantly increases your Damage Threshold, making you more resistant to incoming attacks. Psycho boosts your Melee and Unarmed damage, as well as your Damage Threshold. For those who rely on ranged combat, Skooma (though less common and more addictive) can boost your Agility and Action Points, allowing for more shots in V.A.T.S.
However, chems come with a risk of addiction. If you use a chem too frequently, you can become addicted, which results in negative stat penalties until the addiction is cured. Curing addiction requires a Doctor's Bag or a specific quest outcome. Be mindful of your chem usage and consider perks like 'Chem Resistant' if you plan on using them extensively.
Other important consumables include RadAway, which removes radiation poisoning, a persistent threat in irradiated areas. Purified Water is essential for hydration in Hardcore Mode and can also be used to craft other items. Food items, like Cram or Blamco Mac and Cheese, also restore health and can provide minor stat buffs, though they are less potent than dedicated aid items. In Hardcore Mode, these food items are crucial for managing hunger.
