Miscellaneous Items & Junk
The Mojave Wasteland is littered with the detritus of a fallen civilization, and among the weapons and aid items, you'll find a vast array of miscellaneous items and junk. While many of these might seem worthless at first glance, they are crucial for survival, crafting, and even completing certain quests. Understanding the value and purpose of these seemingly insificant objects is key to thriving in the post-apocalyptic world.
Junk items are the backbone of the crafting system. Components like Scrap Metal, Wonderglue, Duct Tape, Empty Bottles, and Sensor Modules are essential for repairing weapons and armor, as well as for crafting ammunition, chems, and weapon modifications at workbenches. Always be on the lookout for these items, as they are often more valuable for their crafting potential than their sell value.
Tools and components are particularly important. A Wrench, Screwdriver, or Welding Goggles might not seem like much, but they are vital for repairing more complex items or for specific crafting recipes. Similarly, electronic components like Circuitry and Microfusion Cells are indispensable for energy weapon maintenance and crafting.
Miscellaneous quest items are also plentiful. These can range from specific documents and holotapes that provide lore or clues to unique artifacts required to progress a quest. For example, finding a Platinum Chip is central to the main quest, and various keycards are needed to access locked areas. Always check your inventory for items with unique names or descriptions, as they might be important.
Consumables that aren't strictly aid items also fall into this category. Food items like Cram, Blamco Mac and Cheese, or Iguana on a Stick can restore health and provide minor buffs, especially useful in Hardcore Mode. Alcohol can provide temporary stat boosts but also has negative effects. Chems, as discussed in the Aid Items section, are powerful but carry the risk of addiction.
Junk items can be broadly categorized by their primary use:
- Repair Components: Duct Tape, Scrap Metal, Wires, Screws, Springs, etc.
- Crafting Components: Empty Bottles, Scrap Electronics, Sensor Modules, etc.
- Fuel/Power Sources: Microfusion Cells, Scrap Electronics, etc.
- Medical Components: Antiseptic, Gauze, etc.
Here's a table of some common junk items and their uses:
| Item | Primary Use | Example Crafting/Repair |
|---|---|---|
| Duct Tape | Repair, Crafting | Repairing weapons, crafting ammo. |
| Scrap Metal | Repair, Crafting | Repairing armor, crafting melee weapons. |
| Wonderglue | Crafting | Crafting chems, weapon mods. |
| Empty Bottle | Crafting | Crafting water, chems. |
| Sensor Module | Crafting | Crafting explosives, weapon mods. |
| Circuitry | Crafting | Crafting energy weapon ammo, weapon mods. |
Don't underestimate the value of seemingly mundane items. Always loot thoroughly, especially containers and fallen enemies. The junk you collect might be the difference between life and death, allowing you to repair your gear, craft essential supplies, or unlock the next stage of a critical quest. The Mojave is a scavenger's paradise, and your ability to make use of its discarded remnants will be a testament to your survival skills.
