The Mojave Wasteland Overview
The Mojave Wasteland in Fallout: New Vegas is a vast and dangerous region, central to the Courier's journey to track down those who wronged them. Beginning in Goodsprings, the path leads through various settlements and encounters, shaping the Courier's destiny. This guide covers main quests, side quests, DLC, and important locations like Snow Globes and characters.
The main quest, "They Went That-a-Way," is the third primary mission, initiating the Courier's departure from Goodsprings. Early in the game, the Courier learns basic survival skills from Sunny Smiles and clears geckos near Goodsprings. Trudy then provides information about the attackers. Throughout the Mojave, the mysterious robot Victor repeatedly appears, offering guidance and eventually delivering Mr. House's invitation to the New Vegas Strip.
Key early game opportunities include:
- Primm: Repair the damaged eyebot ED-E using either skill checks or salvage parts to gain an early companion.
- Mojave Outpost:
- Help Ranger Jackson by clearing giant ants blocking Interstate 15. Returning earns NCR fame, caps, supplies, and a service rifle.
- Accept Ranger Ghost’s request to investigate Nipton’s silence.
- Nipton: Discover the town’s destruction by Caesar’s Legion and meet Vulpes Inculta. Reporting this to Sgt. Kilborn at Mojave Outpost earns NCR fame. This quest can also be started via Ranger Ghost at the Mojave Outpost.
- Crimson Caravan Company: Meet Cass at Mojave Outpost, then travel to the Crimson Caravan Company outside Eastside New Vegas. Complete quests for Alice McLafferty and convince Cass to sell her caravan rights through Speech, Barter, or a drinking contest.
A unique item can be found in the gecko-filled Searchlight church basement. If the Wild Wasteland trait is not active, these will appear as two mini nukes.
Later, the quest involving Raul allows the Courier to influence his future. By visiting Loyal, Corporal Sterling, and Ranger Andy, Raul reflects on his past, leading to a decision that unlocks different perks and changes his outfit, either returning to his gunslinging ways or embracing a new path.
