Skills are the lifeblood of your character's capabilities in Fallout: New Vegas, dictating your effectiveness in combat, conversation, and exploration. Investing points wisely into your chosen skills will open up new opportunities and allow you to tackle challenges in ways that al with your desired playstyle. Understanding each skill's impact is crucial for building a well-rounded or specialized character.

There are 18 distinct skills in Fallout: New Vegas, each with a numerical rating from 0 to 100. Higher skill ratings unlock more dialogue options, improve your chances of success in skill checks, and enhance your combat effectiveness. You gain skill points upon leveling up, and can also find skill books scattered throughout the wasteland to permanently increase a skill's rating by 3 points (or 5 with the 'Toughness' perk).

Combat Skills:

  • Guns: Governs the effectiveness of pistols, rifles, and machine guns. Essential for most combat-focused characters.
