Room Placement & Layout

Optimize your Fallout Shelter vault layout with strategic room placement and merging techniques for efficiency and defense.

Strategic room placement is key to an efficient and defensible vault. Rooms of the same type can be merged (up to three wide) to increase their capacity and efficiency. Place resource production rooms (Power, Food, Water) near the top of your vault, as these are often the first rooms raiders and other threats encounter. This allows your armed dwellers to quickly respond. Elevators are essential for connecting rooms, but don't build too many, as they can create pathways for invaders. Consider creating 'kill zones' by placing armed dwellers in rooms adjacent to elevators. Leave space for future expansion and specialized rooms like training facilities and crafting stations.
