Mission 11: Newton

Welcome to Newton, a mission that will test your squad's ability to navigate tight spaces and deal with a new, dangerous enemy: Robots. Preparation is key here. Ensure your squad is equipped with energy weapons, as these are highly effective against robotic foes. EMP grenades can also be incredibly useful for stunning or disabling tougher robotic units.

Mission Objectives

  • Disable the Robot Control System.
  • Eliminate all hostile robots.

Squad Composition & Gear

For this mission, a balanced squad with a focus on energy weapons is highly recommended. Consider bringing:

  • Energy Weapons Specialists: Equip them with Plasma Rifles, Laser Rifles, or Gatling Lasers. These weapons deal significant damage to robots.
  • Demolitions Expert: Useful for deploying EMP grenades.
  • Scout/Sneaker: A character with high Sneak and Lockpick can be invaluable for bypassing traps and opening locked doors without drawing unnecessary attention.
  • Medic: While robots don't bleed, your squad members can still take a beating. Keep a medic on hand for healing critical injuries.

Essential Gear:

  • Energy Weapons: As mentioned, these are your primary damage dealers.
  • EMP Grenades: Crucial for temporarily disabling or heavily damaging tougher robots like Sentry Bots or Robobrains.
  • Stimpaks & Doctor's Bags: For healing your squad.
  • Lockpicks & Electronic Lockpicks: For accessing locked areas.
  • Motion Sensors: To detect hidden enemies.

Walkthrough

Initial Approach & Perimeter Clearing

  1. You'll start near the perimeter of the Newton facility. Immediately move your squad into cover.
  2. Expect to encounter several Robots and potentially a Sentry Bot patrolling the exterior. Use your energy weapons to engage them from a distance. Prioritize the Sentry Bot due to its heavy firepower.
  3. After clearing the immediate area, look for an entrance into the facility. There's usually a main gate, but often a smaller, less guarded entrance (perhaps a broken wall or a side door) can be found.

Navigating the Facility - East Wing

  1. Once inside, proceed cautiously. The facility is a maze of corridors and rooms.
  2. The East Wing often contains several smaller rooms with patrolling Robots and sometimes a Robobrain.
  3. Item Location: In one of the storage rooms in the East Wing, you can often find a locker containing a Plasma Rifle and some Micro Fusion Cells. Keep an eye out for these valuable upgrades.
  4. Be wary of tripwires and pressure plates. Use a character with a high Traps skill to disarm them, or send a scout ahead to trigger them safely.

Central Control Room Access

  1. Your primary objective, the Robot Control System, is located in the Central Control Room, typically in the heart of the facility.
  2. Access to this room is often guarded by a reinforced door, which may require a high Lockpick skill or a specific keycard.
  3. Keycard Location: A keycard for the Central Control Room can often be found on the body of a particularly tough Robobrain or Sentry Bot in the West Wing or a security office.

West Wing & Security Offices

  1. The West Wing is usually more heavily guarded. Expect multiple Sentry Bots and potentially even a Mr. Gutsy unit.
  2. Use EMP grenades on the tougher robots to stun them, then focus fire with your energy weapons.
  3. Item Location: In one of the security offices, you might find a desk or safe containing a good supply of EMP Grenades and potentially a Pulse Rifle.
  4. Look for terminals in the security offices. Sometimes, these can be hacked (requires a high Science skill) to disable some of the facility's defenses or open locked doors.

Disabling the Robot Control System

  1. Once you reach the Central Control Room, you'll likely face the toughest resistance yet. Prepare for a concentrated attack from multiple robotic units.
  2. The Robot Control System itself is a large console. Interact with it to initiate the disabling sequence. This may take a few turns, during which your squad will need to defend the character interacting with the system.
  3. Alternatively, if you have a character with a very high Science skill, they might be able to disable it instantly.

Final Cleanup

  1. After the Robot Control System is disabled, any remaining hostile robots will either power down or become significantly easier to destroy.
  2. Methodically clear out any remaining threats to complete the "Eliminate all hostile robots" objective.
  3. Before exiting, ensure you've thoroughly looted all areas for valuable items, ammunition, and potential quest items.

Tactical Tips

  • Cover is King: Always use cover to reduce incoming damage. Robots often have accurate ranged attacks.
  • Focus Fire: Concentrate your squad's fire on one robot at a time to quickly neutralize threats.
  • EMP Grenade Usage: Save your EMP grenades for the most dangerous robots (Sentry Bots, Robobrains, Mr. Gutsy).
  • Stealth & Ambushes: If you have a character with high Sneak, they can scout ahead and set up ambushes, or even sneak past some patrols to reach objectives.
  • Exploit Weaknesses: Remember that energy weapons are the most effective against robots. Ballistic weapons will still work, but less efficiently.
