Mission 4: Mardin
Welcome to Mardin, a relatively straightforward mission that serves as a good warm-up for more complex challenges. Your primary objective here is to eliminate all hostile forces in the area. While it might seem simple, careful planning and tactical execution will minimize casualties and maximize loot.
Mission Briefing & Setup
Before deploying, ensure your squad is adequately equipped. Consider bringing:
- Assault Rifles: For mid-range engagements.
- Shotguns: Excellent for close-quarters combat, especially indoors.
- SMGs: Good for suppressing multiple enemies.
- First Aid Kits: Always essential.
- Stimpaks: For immediate healing during combat.
- Grenades (Frag): Useful for clearing clustered enemies or flushing them out of cover.
A balanced squad with at least one character proficient in Small Guns and another in Energy Weapons (if available) will be beneficial. Don't forget a medic!
Walkthrough
Initial Engagement: The Roadblock
You'll start on the outskirts of Mardin, facing a small roadblock. This area is usually guarded by a few Raiders armed with basic firearms.
- Approach Cautiously: Move your squad forward slowly, using the terrain for cover.
- Scout Ahead: Send a character with a high Perception or Outdoorsman skill to scout the immediate area.
- Engage: Focus fire on one enemy at a time to quickly reduce their numbers. use burst fire with SMGs or assault rifles if you have multiple targets in close proximity.
- Looting: After the engagement, check the bodies of the fallen Raiders for basic weapons, ammunition, and potentially some Stimpaks.
Entering the Town: East Side
After clearing the roadblock, proceed east into the main part of Mardin. The town is laid out in a somewhat linear fashion, but enemies can appear from various angles.
- Building on the Right: As you enter, you'll notice a small building on your right. This often contains a few Raiders. Consider using a grenade to soften them up before entering, or breach with a shotgun-wielding character.
- Street Patrols: Expect small patrols of 2-3 Raiders moving along the main street. Use overwatch and cover to your advantage.
- Loot Opportunity: Inside the building on the right, you might find a Hunting Rifle and some .308 Ammo in a footlocker or on a shelf.
The Central Plaza
The town's central plaza is a more open area and often hosts a larger concentration of enemies, including a few tougher Raiders or even a Raider Leader.
- Flanking Maneuver: If possible, try to flank the enemies in the plaza. Split your squad, sending one group around a building to attack from the side.
- Prioritize Targets: Focus on any visible Raider Leaders first, as they often have better equipment and can deal more damage.
- use Cover: The plaza has several ruined structures and debris that can provide excellent cover.
- Grenade Usage: This is an ideal spot to use a well-placed Frag Grenade if enemies are grouped together.
- Looting the Plaza: Check all corners and ruined buildings. You might find a Combat Shotgun or a 10mm SMG on a fallen enemy or in a crate. There's also a good chance for more First Aid Kits and Stimpaks here.
Western Sector & Final Stand
The western part of Mardin typically holds the last few pockets of resistance. This area can be a bit more enclosed, leading to close-quarters engagements.
- Alleyways and Buildings: Be wary of enemies hiding in narrow alleyways or inside the remaining intact buildings.
- Door Breaching: If you encounter locked doors, use a character with a high Lockpick skill, or resort to brute force (though this can alert nearby enemies).
- Final Enemies: The last few Raiders are often found in the westernmost building or patrolling the final stretch of road.
- Mission Completion: Once all hostile forces are eliminated, the mission will conclude.
Key Loot & Important Items
- Hunting Rifle: Often found in the first building on the right as you enter the town.
- Combat Shotgun: Common drop from Raiders in the central plaza or found in crates.
- 10mm SMG: Can be found on tougher Raiders or in lootable containers.
- First Aid Kits & Stimpaks: Scattered throughout the map, especially on fallen enemies and in buildings.
- Ammunition: Plentiful for common weapon types (.223, 10mm, shotgun shells).
Tactical Tips for Mardin
- Slow and Steady: Don't rush. Advance cautiously and use the "Look" command frequently to spot enemies before they spot you.
- Cover is King: Always position your squad behind cover to reduce incoming damage.
- Focus Fire: Concentrate all available firepower on one enemy at a time to quickly remove them from the fight.
- Overwatch: use the Overwatch stance for characters with good range and accuracy, especially when moving into new areas.
- Healing: Don't hesitate to use First Aid Kits or Stimpaks. Better to heal a little early than lose a squad member.
- Stealth (Optional): While not strictly necessary for this mission, a character with a high Sneak skill can be useful for scouting ahead or getting into advantageous positions.
Mardin is a good mission to practice your basic combat tactics and squad management. Take your time, clear the area thoroughly, and you'll emerge victorious with some decent loot to boot!
