Mission 9: Peoria (Part 2)
Welcome back, initiates! If you've made it this far, you've likely cleared the initial raider encampments and are ready to push deeper into Peoria. This section will guide you through the more challenging interior areas, focusing on securing vital objectives and eliminating the remaining threats.
Securing the Main Building
Your primary objective now is to infiltrate and clear the large, central building that dominates the map. This structure is heavily defended by a mix of Raiders, some armed with more potent firearms and even a few with heavy weapons. Prepare for close-quarters combat and ambushes.
- Entry Point: The most straightforward entry is usually the main double doors on the building's south side. However, consider using a high-Sneak character to scout for alternative, less-guarded entrances, such as a broken window or a side door, which might allow for a flanking maneuver.
- Ground Floor Clearing:
- Upon entering, expect immediate resistance. Position your heavy weapons specialist (e.g., with a
M60 orFlamer ) to cover the main entrance. - Send a scout or a character with high
Perception ahead to detect traps. There are often tripwires and pressure plates near doorways and in hallways. Disarm them with a character skilled inTraps . - Focus fire on any Raiders wielding
Assault Rifles orShotguns first, as they pose the most immediate threat in close quarters. - Loot Opportunity: Check the various rooms on the ground floor. You'll often find
Small Guns Ammunition ,Shotgun Shells , and occasionally aStimpak or two in footlockers and crates.
- Upon entering, expect immediate resistance. Position your heavy weapons specialist (e.g., with a
- Stairwell Ascent: The stairwells leading to the upper floors are often choke points.
- Before ascending, heal any injured squad members.
- Use a character with good
Throwing skill to toss aFrag Grenade orMolotov Cocktail up the stairwell to soften up any enemies waiting at the top. - Advance cautiously, using the stairwell walls for cover.
Upper Floors and Raider Leader
The upper floors will contain more elite Raiders and, ultimately, the Raider Leader. This is where the mission's difficulty ramps up significantly.
- Second Floor:
- Expect more heavily armed Raiders, some potentially carrying
Combat Shotguns or evenLight Machine Guns . - Utilize doorways and corners for cover. Overwatching these positions can be highly effective.
- Key Item: In one of the offices on the second floor (often the one furthest east), you can find a
First Aid Kit and sometimes aSniper Rifle in a locked cabinet. A character with highLockpick is essential here.
- Expect more heavily armed Raiders, some potentially carrying
- Third Floor (Raider Leader's Den):
- The Raider Leader is typically found in a large, central room on the third floor, often accompanied by 2-3 bodyguards.
- Strategy:
- Before engaging, position your snipers (if you have them) to get clear shots from a distance.
- Initiate combat with a well-placed
Plasma Grenade orExplosive Grenade to damage multiple enemies simultaneously. - Focus fire on the Raider Leader first. Eliminating him quickly can cause the remaining bodyguards to panic or become less effective.
- Use burst fire with
Assault Rifles or concentrated single shots withSniper Rifles for maximum damage.
- Leader's Loot: The Raider Leader will drop a unique weapon, often a high-damage
Hunting Rifle or aScoped .223 Pistol , along with a decent amount ofCaps and sometimes aSkill Book .
Post-Combat Cleanup and Extraction
Once the Raider Leader is down and the building is clear, you're almost done.
- Final Loot Pass: Double-check all rooms, especially those previously occupied by the Leader and his guards. Look for hidden stashes or lockers. You might find additional
Stimpaks ,RadAway , or valuable weapons like aPancor Jackhammer orFN FAL . - Mission Completion: The mission will conclude once all primary objectives are met (usually clearing the main building and eliminating the leader). You'll receive your experience and reputation rewards.
- Return to Base: Head back to your Hummer or APC at the designated extraction point to return to the bunker.
Congratulations, soldier! Peoria is now secure. Prepare for your next assignment, as the Brotherhood's fight for the wasteland continues.
