The wasteland is teeming with opportunities beyond the main quest. Engaging in side quests and various activities not only provides valuable experience and loot but also enriches your understanding of the world and its inhabitants. In Fallout, your Karma and Reputation will fluctuate based on how you resolve these conflicts, often dictating which factions will aid you in the endgame.
Notable Side Quests by Location
- Shady Sands: Help Seth and Aradesh by removing the Radscorpion threat in the nearby caves. Utilize your Doctor skill or bring a sample to Razlo to create an antidote for Jarvis.
- Junktown: Assist Killian Darkwater in exposing Gizmo’s assassination plot by using a wiretap, or side with the casino mogul to take over the town. recruit Dogmeat by wearing a Leather Jacket or feeding him Iguana-on-a-stick.
- The Hub: Join the Far Go Traders or the Crimson Caravan for high-stakes guard runs, or investigate the missing caravans for Butch to discover the terrifying Deathclaw presence. Visit the Thieves' Circle to earn the Electronic Lockpick by stealing from Hightower.
- Adytum (The Boneyard): Help Miles the Chemist fix the hydroponic farms by retrieving parts from the Deathclaw-infested warehouse, and later bring the parts to Smitty to upgrade your Power Armor into Hardened Power Armor.
- The Brotherhood of Steel: Undertake the "Ancient Order" quest by traveling to the Glow to retrieve a holodisk. Success grants you access to the Bunker, high-tier weaponry, and the surgical procedures to increase your SPECIAL stats.
Wasteland Activities
- Caravan Guarding: A lucrative way to earn Bottle Caps and XP while traveling between The Hub, Junktown, and the Brotherhood of Steel.
- Gambling: With a high Luck stat and Gambling skill, you can break the bank at Gizmo’s or the Maltese Falcon.
- Skill Improvement: Seek out NPCs like Mrs. Stapleton in The Hub to purchase skill books (Big Book of Science, Dean's Electronics) to permanently boost your attributes without leveling up.
