Welcome, mercenary, to the heart of Far Cry 2's narrative. This section will guide you through every critical step of the main story, ensuring you navigate the treacherous landscape of Africa, confront the Jackal, and survive the civil war between the UFLL and APR. Remember, adaptability and preparation are key to success in this unforgiving environment.

Act I: The Beginning of the End

Your journey begins in Leboa-Seka, a region rife with conflict and disease. Your initial objective is to track down the elusive arms dealer, the Jackal, but circumstances quickly spiral into a fight for survival.

Mission 1: Malaria & First Contact

  • Objective: Survive the initial malaria attack and escape the town.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. You'll wake up in a small room, suffering from a severe malaria attack. Your vision will blur, and movement will be impaired.
    2. A cutscene will introduce you to the Jackal. After he leaves, grab the Makarov PM pistol and a few magazines from the table next to your bed.
    3. Carefully move through the building. Expect light resistance from a few scattered enemies. Use cover and aim for headshots to conserve ammunition.
    4. Exit the building and make your way towards the designated escape point. You'll likely encounter a few more patrols. Don't engage unnecessarily if you're low on health or ammo.
    5. Locate a vehicle – a Jeep or a Technical is usually available nearby – and drive out of the immediate area to trigger the next phase.
  • Key Items: Makarov PM (pistol), health syringes (automatically applied during malaria attacks).
  • Strategy: Prioritize stealth and evasion during the initial malaria attack. Your health is low, and your vision is compromised. Only engage when necessary.

Mission 2: UFLL/APR Introduction & First Assignment

  • Objective: Choose a faction and complete your first assassination contract.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. After escaping, you'll be directed to a safe house. Here, you'll meet your first buddy and receive a call from one of the two warring factions: the UFLL (United Front for Liberation and Labor) or the APR (Alliance for Popular Resistance).
    2. Decision Point: You must choose to work for either the UFLL or the APR. This choice primarily affects who you receive your initial contracts from, but the overall story progression remains similar. For this guide, we'll assume you chose the UFLL.
    3. Head to the UFLL faction headquarters (marked on your map) and speak with the representative. They will give you your first assignment: eliminate a specific target.
    4. Travel to the target's location, usually a small outpost or a guarded building.
    5. Approach:
      • Stealth: Utilize the dense vegetation for cover. A suppressed MP5 (if you've acquired one from a weapon shop) or the Makarov PM can be effective for silent takedowns. Scout the area with your monocular to identify patrol routes and enemy positions.
      • Direct Assault: If you prefer a more direct approach, equip a reliable assault rifle like the AK-47 or G3-KA4. Use fragmentation grenades to flush out entrenched enemies. Be prepared for reinforcements.
    6. Eliminate the target. Confirm the kill by approaching their body if required.
    7. Return to the UFLL headquarters to report your success and receive payment in blood diamonds.
  • Key Items: Blood Diamonds (currency), AK-47 (common enemy drop), G3-KA4 (available at weapon shops), Fragmentation Grenades.
  • Strategy: Before engaging, always scout the target area. Look for alternative entry points, explosive barrels, and elevated positions. Consider taking out snipers first if present.

Act I: Buddy Missions & Diversions

Between main story missions, your buddies will often offer alternative approaches or side objectives that can make the primary mission easier, or simply provide additional blood diamonds and weapon upgrades.

Buddy Diversion: The Supply Cache

  • Objective: Destroy an enemy supply cache to weaken their forces before the main mission.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. After accepting a main mission, your buddy might call you with a "buddy mission." Accept it.
    2. Travel to the designated supply cache location, usually a small fortified compound.
    3. Recommended Approach: Use explosives. Plant IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) on the fuel tanks or ammunition crates within the cache. Alternatively, use a Rocket Launcher (RPG-7) from a safe distance.
    4. Detonate the explosives and ensure the cache is destroyed.
    5. This will often reduce the number of enemies or the quality of their equipment at your primary mission objective, making it significantly easier.
  • Key Items: IEDs, RPG-7 (available at weapon shops after upgrades).
  • Strategy: Completing buddy missions is highly recommended. They not only provide additional rewards but also often simplify subsequent main missions, saving you health and ammunition.
