The Buddy System is a unique and crucial mechanic in Far Cry 2. As you progress, you'll encounter other mercenaries who can become your buddies. There are two types of buddies: Best Buddies and Buddies. Best Buddies are those you've helped significantly, and they will offer you alternative approaches to main missions, often making them easier or more strategic. If you accept their alternative plan, they will assist you directly in the mission. If you go down in combat, a buddy (if nearby and not incapacitated) will revive you, giving you a second chance. However, buddies can also be incapacitated or killed. If a buddy is critically wounded, you have a choice: revive them with a syringe (if you have one) or perform a mercy kill. Your choices regarding your buddies have consequences, affecting their availability and your reputation. Cultivate strong relationships with your buddies; they are invaluable assets in this hostile world.
