Malaria is a constant threat in Far Cry 2, not just a narrative device. You are infected from the very beginning of the game. Periodically, you will experience malaria attacks, characterized by blurred vision, screen distortion, and a significant reduction in movement speed and accuracy. These attacks are debilitating and can occur at the worst possible moments, often during firefights. To alleviate symptoms and prevent a full-blown attack, you must take Malaria Pills. These pills are a finite resource and must be acquired through specific side quests (Underground missions) or by purchasing them from weapon dealers after completing certain objectives. Always keep a stock of pills on hand, as running out can lead to a quick and frustrating death. The frequency of attacks can feel random, but generally, they occur every 15-30 minutes of active gameplay. Prioritize obtaining malaria pills whenever possible.
