Boss Strategies

Far Cry 4 features a few memorable encounters that can be considered "boss fights," though they often involve unique scenarios rather than traditional health bar battles. Preparing for these encounters is key to emerging victorious and continuing your journey through Kyrat.

Pagan Min (Final Encounter)

The final confrontation with Pagan Min is less about direct combat and more about your choices and understanding of the narrative. There are two primary outcomes, both dictated by your actions at the dinner table in the prologue and your final decision in the Royal Palace.

Strategy 1: The Patient Approach (Alternate Ending)

  • Prerequisite: During the prologue, when Pagan Min instructs you to "stay right here" at the dinner table, do not move. Wait patiently for approximately 10-15 minutes. He will eventually return.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. Upon his return, Pagan will lead you to a shrine.
    2. He will place your mother's ashes at the shrine.
    3. Listen to his monologue. No combat is required.
    4. After he finishes, he will leave peacefully in his helicopter. You can choose to shoot him down or let him go. Letting him go results in the "good" alternate ending.
  • Items/Gear: No specific gear is needed as there is no combat.

Strategy 2: The Confrontation (Standard Ending)

  • Prerequisite: If you left the dinner table in the prologue, or if you choose to confront him in the Royal Palace.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. After reaching the Royal Palace, you will find Pagan Min.
    2. He will offer you a choice: shoot him or let him live.
    3. If you shoot him: The game ends immediately with a cutscene.
    4. If you let him live: He will explain his motivations and then leave in his helicopter. You can then choose to shoot down his helicopter (ending the game) or let him escape.
  • Items/Gear: A powerful assault rifle like the AK-47 or P416 is recommended if you intend to shoot down his helicopter. Explosives such as C4 or Grenades can also be effective against the helicopter.

Yuma Lau (Shangri-La Missions)

While not a traditional boss in the main campaign, Yuma Lau is the primary antagonist of the Shangri-La missions and culminates in a unique, hallucinatory battle within the mythical realm.

The Battle of Shangri-La

  • Location: The final Shangri-La mission, "The Protector's Arrival."
  • Phase 1: The Arena
    • Objective: Survive waves of demonic creatures and destroy the four bells.
    • Strategy: Utilize the mythical bow and arrow, which has infinite ammunition. Aim for headshots on the demons for quick kills. The White Tiger, your companion, is invaluable here. Command it to attack larger enemies or groups. The bells are vulnerable to arrows; shoot them until they shatter. Stay mobile and use the environment for cover.
    • Items/Gear: Only the mythical bow and arrow provided in the Shangri-La missions.
  • Phase 2: Yuma's Illusions
    • Objective: Navigate a maze-like environment while Yuma projects illusions and attacks.
    • Strategy: Yuma will appear as a large, demonic figure. She is invulnerable during this phase. Your goal is to find the glowing red roots that are powering her illusions. Follow the path, using your bow to clear any demonic creatures. When you find a root, shoot it until it explodes. There are several roots to destroy. The White Tiger will often point you in the right direction.
    • Items/Gear: Mythical bow and arrow.
  • Phase 3: The Final Confrontation
    • Objective: Defeat Yuma Lau.
    • Strategy: Yuma will eventually become vulnerable. She will engage you in close quarters. Dodge her attacks and use your bow to strike her. Aim for critical spots if possible, but consistent hits will bring her down. The White Tiger will assist you directly in this final phase, often distracting Yuma or dealing damage. Keep an eye on your health and use the healing ability if available.
    • Items/Gear: Mythical bow and arrow.
