The Father Final Encounter
Congratulations, Deputy! You've faced down the Heralds and liberated Hope County from their oppressive grip. Now, only Joseph Seed, The Father, remains. This final confrontation is less about direct combat and more about navigating a chaotic, narrative-driven sequence. Be prepared for a test of endurance and quick reactions rather than a traditional boss fight.
Preparation is Key (But Limited)
Unlike previous Herald encounters, you won't have much opportunity for last-minute gear changes once this sequence begins. Ensure you have a balanced loadout before initiating the final mission, "Where It All Began," on Dutch's Island. While your chosen weapons will be present, the encounter itself will largely dictate your available tools.
- Full Health & Ammo: Always a good idea. Top off your health and ensure your primary weapons (an assault rifle like the AR-C or AK-47, and a reliable shotgun like the M133) have full magazines.
- Medkits & Homeopathic Remedies: Stock up on these. You'll be taking damage, and quick healing can save you.
- Companions: Your Guns for Hire will be with you for a portion of this encounter. Ensure you have your favorites unlocked and ready. Nick Rye and Grace Armstrong are excellent choices for aerial and ranged support, respectively, though their utility will vary depending on the phase.
Phase 1: The Cultist Onslaught
The mission begins with you, Sheriff Whitehorse, and Deputy Hudson attempting to arrest Joseph Seed. Predictably, this goes sideways fast. You'll be immediately plunged into a massive firefight against a seemingly endless wave of Project at Eden's Gate cultists.
- Defensive Stance: Your primary objective here is survival. Find cover immediately. The area around the church on Dutch's Island will be swarming.
- Prioritize Heavies: Look out for Heavies armed with LMGs or flamethrowers. Use explosives (Dynamite, Molotovs, or your Grenade Launcher if you have one) to quickly dispatch them.
- Headshots: Standard cultists go down with headshots. Conserve ammo where possible, but don't be shy about unleashing suppressing fire.
- Protect Your Allies: While your NPC companions are fairly resilient, they can go down. Revive them if they fall to keep the pressure off you.
Phase 2: The Bliss-Induced Chase
After a certain amount of cultists are defeated, Joseph will unleash a massive Bliss attack, causing you to hallucinate. This transitions into a chaotic chase sequence.
- Follow the Path: The path forward will be somewhat linear, guided by the narrative. Don't get sidetracked trying to fight every hallucination; many are invulnerable or respawn endlessly.
- Avoid the Bliss: While you can't entirely escape its effects, try to minimize exposure to the glowing Bliss flowers and gas. Prolonged exposure will blur your vision and disorient you.
- Close-Quarters Combat: You'll encounter cultists up close. A shotgun is excellent for clearing these immediate threats.
- Stay Mobile: Keep moving. Standing still makes you an easy target for the hallucinated enemies and the environmental hazards.
Phase 3: The Final Confrontation (Non-Combat)
Eventually, you'll reach a point where Joseph Seed is cornered. This is not a combat phase. Instead, it's a series of narrative choices and events that will lead to one of the game's endings.
- Listen Carefully: Pay close attention to Joseph's dialogue and the choices presented to you.
- Make Your Choice: You will be given a critical choice that determines the immediate outcome of the game.
- Prepare for the Aftermath: Regardless of your choice, the ending sequence is intense and will have lasting implications for Hope County.
The Father's final encounter is a memorable conclusion to your journey in Hope County. Focus on survival, adapt to the chaotic environment, and prepare for a truly impactful ending to Far Cry 5.
