Game Basics
Welcome to Yara, Libertad! This section will equip you with the fundamental knowledge and strategies to survive and thrive against Antón Castillo's regime. From understanding your arsenal to navigating the treacherous landscape, mastering these basics is crucial for any aspiring revolutionary.
Your First Steps: Isla Santuario
Your journey begins on Isla Santuario, a small island serving as a tutorial area. Don't rush through this section; it's designed to introduce core mechanics. Pay close attention to:
- Movement and Stealth: Practice crouching, using cover, and performing takedowns. Stealth is often your best friend, especially early on.
- Weapon Handling: Experiment with the basic pistol and rifle you're given. Learn to aim down sights (ADS) and manage recoil.
- Resource Gathering: Keep an eye out for materials like Gasolina, Metal, and Supremo-Bond. These are vital for crafting and upgrading.
- Mission Objectives: Follow Clara's instructions carefully. The initial missions, like "Juan of a Kind," will guide you through essential gameplay loops.
Understanding Your Arsenal: Weapons and Supremos
Far Cry 6 offers a vast array of weaponry and unique abilities. Mastering them is key to your success.
Weapons
There are several weapon categories, each with distinct advantages:
- Assault Rifles: Versatile, good for mid-range combat. Examples: AK-47, MS16 S.
- SMGs: High rate of fire, excellent for close quarters. Examples: MP5, PPSH-41.
- Shotguns: Devastating at close range. Examples: M133, SPAS-12.
- Snipers: Ideal for long-range engagements and stealth takedowns. Examples: SKS, MBP .50.
- Pistols: Reliable sidearms, good for stealth. Examples: M1911, PMM.
- Bows: Silent and effective for stealth. The Recurve Bow is an early acquisition.
- Resolver Weapons: Juan Cortez's ingenious, often outlandish, creations. These are powerful and unique. Early examples include the Tostador (flamethrower) and the Discos Locos (CD launcher).
Strategy: Always carry a diverse loadout. A sniper for long range, an assault rifle for general combat, and an SMG or shotgun for close encounters is a good starting point. Don't forget a silenced pistol for stealth!
Supremos
Supremos are powerful backpack-mounted ultimate abilities. You unlock your first Supremo, the Triador Supremo, during the "Juan of a Kind" mission on Isla Santuario. Each Supremo has a unique ability and can be upgraded with mods.
- Triador Supremo: Marks enemies through walls and allows you to fire special projectiles. Excellent for tactical planning and clearing out fortified positions.
- Fuego Supremo: Unleashes a ring of fire, great for crowd control and area denial.
- Volta Supremo: Emits an EMP blast, disabling vehicles and electronics. Invaluable against armored targets and turrets.
Strategy: Experiment with different Supremos to find one that suits your playstyle. Remember to activate it strategically, as it has a cooldown.
Crafting and Upgrades: The Workbench
The Workbench is your hub for customizing and enhancing your gear. You'll find Workbenches at Guerrilla Camps and Hideouts.
Weapon Upgrades: Each weapon can be customized with various attachments:
- Optics: Scopes and sights for improved aiming.
- Muzzles: Suppressors for stealth, compensators for recoil control.
- Ammo Types:
- Soft Target Rounds: Effective against unarmored enemies.
- Armor-Piercing Rounds: Essential for dealing with armored FND soldiers.
- Blast Rounds: Good against vehicles and groups.
- Incendiary Rounds: Sets enemies on fire.
- Poison Rounds: Causes enemies to hallucinate and attack each other.
- Canted Sights: Allows for quick switching between two different optics.
- Laser Pointers: Improves hip-fire accuracy.
Supremo Mods: Supremos can be upgraded with various mods that enhance their primary ability or add secondary effects. For example, the Triador Supremo can gain mods that increase its range or damage.
Resolver Weapon Upgrades: Resolver Weapons also have unique upgrade paths, often requiring specific materials.
Strategy: Prioritize upgrading your primary weapons with Armor-Piercing Rounds as soon as possible. This will make a significant difference against later-game enemies. Always scavenge for materials like Gunpowder, Durable Plastic, and Scrap Metal to fuel your upgrades.
Amigos: Your Animal Companions
Amigos are animal companions that fight alongside you. Each Amigo has unique abilities that can aid you in combat or stealth.
- Guapo: Your first Amigo, an aggressive crocodile. Unlocked during the "Juan of a Kind" mission. Guapo will attack enemies head-on and can retrieve resources.
- Chorizo: A cute, but surprisingly effective, dachshund. Chorizo distracts enemies, allowing for easy stealth takedowns. Unlocked by completing the "Fetch Quest" and "Boom or Bust" missions in Montero Farm, Madrugada.
- Boom Boom: A loyal dog that can tag enemies and retrieve resources. Unlocked by completing the "Boom or Bust" mission.
- Oluso: A stealthy panther that can perform silent takedowns. Unlocked by completing the "Triada Blessings" side quests.
- Chicharrón: An aggressive rooster that charges enemies. Unlocked by completing the "Man's Best Enemy," "Pecking Orders," and "Wingman" missions.
- K-9000: A robotic dog that is resistant to poison and fire, and can tag turrets. Available with the Ultimate Edition or as a separate purchase.
- Champagne: A white panther that collects more money from dead enemies. Available with the Ultimate Edition or as a separate purchase.
Strategy: Choose your Amigo based on the situation. Chorizo is excellent for stealth, while Guapo or Chicharrón are great for direct combat. Remember to issue commands to your Amigo to maximize their effectiveness.
Exploration and Activities
Yara is a vast open world filled with activities and secrets. Don't just stick to the main story!
FND Bases and Checkpoints
These are enemy-controlled locations that, once liberated, become fast travel points and provide resources. Clearing them also weakens Castillo's hold on the region.
- FND Bases: Larger installations with multiple enemies, alarms, and sometimes anti-aircraft guns. Always scout with your phone or Amigo to tag enemies and objectives. Disable alarms to prevent reinforcements.
- Checkpoints: Smaller roadblocks that can be cleared quickly. Look for red barrels to create explosions.
Anti-Aircraft Sites
These heavily defended locations prevent you from flying freely in the area. Destroying them allows you to use helicopters and planes without being shot down. Look for the large red exclusion zones on your map.
Treasure Hunts
These are environmental puzzles that lead to valuable rewards, including unique weapons and gear. Keep an eye out for yellow notes or symbols that indicate a Treasure Hunt nearby.
Yaran Stories (Side Quests)
These optional missions provide additional lore, unique rewards, and often introduce new characters. They are a great way to earn XP and expand your arsenal.
Caches and Resources
Always be on the lookout for resource caches. These are often found in chests, supply drops, or by looting defeated enemies. Key resources include:
- Gasolina: Used for vehicle repairs and crafting.
- Metal: Essential for weapon upgrades.
- Supremo-Bond: Used for Supremo upgrades.
- Gunpowder: Crucial for weapon mods.
- Durable Plastic: Another common crafting material.
- Medicine: For healing.
- Pesos: The local currency, used for purchasing items from vendors.
Strategy: Use your phone to scan the environment for resources and collectibles. Don't be afraid to go off the beaten path; hidden stashes often contain valuable items.
Stealth vs. Combat
Far Cry 6 allows for both stealthy and aggressive approaches. Understanding when to use each is crucial.
- Stealth: Ideal for FND Bases, Anti-Aircraft Sites, and when outnumbered. Use silenced weapons, takedowns, and your Amigo's abilities (like Chorizo's distraction). Always disable alarms first!
- Combat: Sometimes, going in guns blazing is unavoidable or even preferable. Use cover, your Supremo, and explosives to your advantage. Focus on high-priority targets like heavy gunners and alarm operators.
Strategy: Always try to scout an area before engaging. Identify alarm locations, enemy patrols, and potential vantage points. Having a plan, even a simple one, will significantly increase your chances of success.
