Enemy Types & Weaknesses
Understanding your enemies in Yara is crucial for survival and efficient liberation. Each FND (Fuerzas Nacionales de Defensa) soldier type presents unique challenges and vulnerabilities. Exploiting these weaknesses with the right gear and tactics will turn the tide in your favor.
Standard Infantry
These are the most common FND soldiers you'll encounter. They wear light armor and carry several assault rifles, SMGs, and shotguns. While not heavily armored, their numbers can quickly overwhelm an unprepared Libertad fighter.
- Weakness: Headshots are instantly lethal. Their light armor offers minimal protection against any bullet type.
- Strategy:
- Stealth: use the El Susurro (silenced pistol) or a bow like the Recurve Bow for silent takedowns from a distance. Approach from cover and perform a Takedown for a quick, quiet kill.
- Direct Combat: Any assault rifle (e.g., AK-47, MS16 S) or LMG (e.g., RPD) with standard or soft-target rounds will dispatch them quickly. Aim for the head or center mass.
- Explosives: A well-placed Dynamite or Grenade can clear groups of standard infantry effectively.
- Recommended Gear: Any weapon with a decent rate of fire and accuracy. Soft-target rounds are ideal for maximizing damage.
Heavy Gunners
These formidable foes are heavily armored and wield powerful LMGs, making them a significant threat in direct engagements. Their armor makes headshots less effective, and body shots require sustained fire.
- Weakness: Their helmets are often less armored than their body, but the most significant weakness is their back-mounted ammo pack. Fire-based attacks are also highly effective.
- Strategy:
- Flanking: Maneuver around them to target the bright red ammo pack on their back. A few shots to this pack will cause it to explode, dealing massive damage and often killing them instantly.
- Armor-Piercing Rounds: Equip your assault rifle or sniper rifle with Armor-Piercing Rounds. These rounds will penetrate their heavy armor more effectively, allowing for quicker kills even with body shots.
- Incendiary Attacks: The Tostador (flamethrower) or Molotov Cocktails are devastating against Heavy Gunners. The fire will bypass their armor and inflict continuous damage.
- Explosives: Grenades and Dynamite can strip their armor or deal significant damage.
- Recommended Gear: Armor-Piercing Rounds for primary weapons, Tostador, Molotov Cocktails, or the Volta Supremo (for EMP blasts that can stun and expose their back).
Snipers
Snipers are typically positioned on elevated platforms, rooftops, or towers, providing long-range suppressive fire. They can quickly down you if you're caught in the open.
- Weakness: Lightly armored, making them vulnerable to headshots and direct hits. Their static positions make them predictable targets.
- Strategy:
- Counter-Sniping: Use your own sniper rifle (e.g., SKS, MBP .50) to eliminate them before they can spot you. Aim for the head.
- Stealth Approach: use cover to close the distance and perform a Takedown, or use a silenced weapon for a discreet kill.
- Explosives: A well-aimed Grenade or Dynamite can dislodge them from their perch or kill them outright.
- Amigos: Send in an Amigo like Chorizo to distract them, or Oluso for a stealthy takedown.
- Recommended Gear: Sniper Rifles, El Susurro, or any silenced weapon.
Medics
Medics are support units that can revive fallen FND soldiers and heal injured ones. Prioritizing them is crucial to prevent enemies from returning to the fight.
- Weakness: Lightly armored, similar to standard infantry. Their healing beam makes them stand out.
- Strategy:
- High Priority Target: Always eliminate Medics first. Their ability to revive and heal makes combat encounters significantly harder if they are left unchecked.
- Headshots: A quick headshot with any weapon will neutralize them instantly.
- Stealth Takedown: If possible, approach silently and perform a Takedown to prevent them from alerting others or healing.
- Recommended Gear: Any accurate weapon for quick headshots.
Flamethrower Troopers
These specialized units carry powerful flamethrowers, making close-quarters combat extremely dangerous. Their attacks inflict continuous burn damage.
- Weakness: The fuel tank on their back is a massive weakness. Explosives and armor-piercing rounds are also effective.
- Strategy:
- Target the Tank: Aim for the large fuel tank on their back. A few shots will cause it to explode, often killing them instantly and damaging nearby enemies.
- Armor-Piercing Rounds: Use Armor-Piercing Rounds to penetrate their armor and deal direct damage.
- Explosives: Grenades or Dynamite can detonate their fuel tank or deal heavy damage.
- Maintain Distance: Keep your distance to avoid their short-range flamethrower attacks.
- Recommended Gear: Armor-Piercing Rounds, Grenades, Dynamite.
Assault Dogs (K-9 Units)
These aggressive dogs are fast, agile, and can quickly close the distance, interrupting your actions and dealing rapid damage.
- Weakness: Low health, but their speed makes them hard to hit.
- Strategy:
- Recommended Gear: SMGs, Shotguns, or any weapon with a high rate of fire.
Vehicles (Jeeps, Trucks, Tanks, Helicopters)
FND operates several vehicles, from lightly armored jeeps to heavily armored tanks and attack helicopters. Each requires a specific approach.
- Weakness:
- Jeeps/Trucks: Driver/gunner exposed, engine block.
- Tanks: Rear engine, exposed hatch (sometimes), tracks.
- Helicopters: Rotor, pilot, engine.
- Strategy:
- Anti-Vehicle Weapons: The Exterminador Supremo is excellent for launching rockets. The Pyrotechno (rocket launcher) and El Muro (shield with shotgun) are also highly effective.
- Explosives: C4, Dynamite, and Grenades can disable or destroy vehicles. Place C4 on patrol routes for ambushes.
- Armor-Piercing Rounds: For lighter vehicles, Armor-Piercing Rounds can shred tires and damage engines.
- EMP Grenades: The EMP Grenade can temporarily disable vehicles, allowing you to get close for a Takedown or to plant explosives.
- Mounted Weapons: use mounted turrets found in FND bases or on your own vehicles.
- Recommended Gear: Exterminador Supremo, Pyrotechno, C4, EMP Grenades.
Special Forces (Spec Ops)
These elite soldiers are encountered in higher-difficulty areas and during specific missions. They are heavily armored, carry advanced weaponry, and are highly skilled.
- Weakness: Similar to Heavy Gunners, their back-mounted equipment (often a backpack or power source) is a critical weak point. They are also susceptible to fire and EMP effects.
- Strategy:
- Prioritize: Treat Spec Ops as high-priority targets. Their damage output and resilience can quickly turn a fight.
- Flanking & Back Shots: Always try to flank them to target their exposed back. This is the most efficient way to take them down.
- Armor-Piercing Rounds: Essential for penetrating their advanced armor.
- Resolver Weapons: The Discos Locos (CD launcher) can stun and damage them, creating openings. The El Muro provides protection while allowing you to get close.
- Supremos: The Volta Supremo's EMP blast can stun them, making them vulnerable. The Exterminador Supremo provides direct explosive damage.
- Recommended Gear: Armor-Piercing Rounds, Discos Locos, Volta Supremo, EMP Grenades.
