Game Basics

Welcome to the vibrant, yet treacherous, post-apocalyptic world of Hope County! Far Cry New Dawn throws you into a struggle for survival and rebuilding against the ruthless Highwaymen. This section will equip you with the fundamental knowledge to navigate the wasteland, gather resources, and empower your community at Prosperity.

Understanding Prosperity: Your Home Base

Prosperity is more than just a safe haven; it's the heart of your operations and your primary means of progression. Upgrading Prosperity is crucial for unlocking new abilities, crafting stronger gear, and recruiting essential specialists. Each facility at Prosperity offers unique benefits:

  • Workbench: Upgrade this to craft higher-tier weapons and vehicles. The higher its level, the more powerful blueprints become available.
  • Infirmary: Improves your health and healing capabilities. Higher levels grant more health segments and faster recovery.
  • Training Camp: Enhances the effectiveness of your Guns for Hire and Fangs for Hire. They'll deal more damage and have increased resilience.
  • Explosives Lab: Unlocks and improves various explosives, from Molotovs to advanced grenades. Essential for taking down heavily armored enemies and fortified outposts.
  • Garage: Allows you to craft and customize vehicles. Upgrading it provides access to more durable and weaponized options.
  • Expedition Airfield: Necessary for launching Expeditions, which are excellent sources of rare materials.
  • Cartography: Reveals locations of valuable resources and hidden stashes on your map.

To upgrade these facilities, you'll primarily need Ethanol, a precious resource obtained by liberating Outposts, hijacking Supply Drops, and completing Expeditions.

Resource Gathering and Crafting

Survival in Far Cry New Dawn hinges on your ability to scavenge and craft. Keep an eye out for these vital materials:

  • Components: Found in toolboxes, abandoned vehicles, and enemy caches. Used for crafting basic weapons and gear.
  • Gear Parts: Often dropped by higher-tier enemies or found in more secure locations. Essential for upgrading weapons and crafting specialized items.
  • Springs: Mechanical parts found in industrial areas and from dismantling certain items. Crucial for weapon modifications.
  • Titanium: A rare and valuable metal, typically found in Expeditions, high-level Outposts, and from dismantling high-tier weapons. Used for crafting elite-tier gear.
  • Copper: Electrical components found in electronics and some enemy drops. Used for crafting gadgets and certain weapon attachments.
  • Blasting Caps: Explosive components found in military caches and from dismantling explosive devices. Essential for crafting grenades and other explosives.

Always loot defeated enemies and explore every nook and cranny of the environment. Use your Binoculars to tag resources from a distance, making them appear on your mini-map.

Combat Essentials: Tiers and Tactics

Enemies and weapons in Far Cry New Dawn are categorized into tiers, indicated by their color (grey, blue, purple, gold). Higher-tier enemies have more health and deal more damage, requiring higher-tier weapons to effectively combat them.

  • Weapon Tiers:
    • Tier 1 (Grey): Basic, low damage. Effective against unarmored enemies.
    • Tier 2 (Blue): Improved damage and accuracy. Good for early-game engagements.
    • Tier 3 (Purple): Significant damage boost, often with unique perks. Essential for mid-game challenges.
    • Elite (Gold): Top-tier weapons, devastating damage, and powerful special abilities. Crucial for late-game and high-difficulty encounters.
  • Enemy Tiers: Match your weapon tier to the enemy tier for optimal damage. Using a grey weapon against a purple-tier Highwayman will be a frustrating experience.
  • Headshots: Always aim for the head! This is the most effective way to deal critical damage and quickly dispatch enemies, regardless of their tier.
  • Stealth: Utilize stealth takedowns and silenced weapons to clear Outposts quietly, earning bonus Ethanol. Approach from cover, use tall grass, and tag enemies with your binoculars to plan your route.
  • Guns for Hire / Fangs for Hire: Don't forget your companions! Each has unique abilities that can turn the tide of battle. For example, Timber can tag enemies and resources, while Nana is a deadly sniper. Assign them targets and use their special skills strategically.

Outposts and Expeditions

These activities are your primary source of Ethanol and rare materials:

  • Outposts: Liberating Outposts provides a significant boost of Ethanol. After clearing an Outpost, you have the option to Scavenge it. This yields more Ethanol but allows the Highwaymen to retake and fortify it with stronger enemies, offering an even greater reward upon re-liberation. This is an excellent way to farm Ethanol.
  • Expeditions: Accessed via the Expedition Airfield at Prosperity. These are self-contained missions in unique locations outside Hope County, designed for high-value resource acquisition. They are often challenging but reward rare materials like Titanium and high-tier weapon parts. Each Expedition has three difficulty tiers, with increasing rewards.

By mastering these fundamental mechanics, you'll be well on your way to rebuilding Hope County and bringing peace back to the wasteland!
