Welcome, Prospector! Hope County is a vast and dangerous place, but also rich with resources and opportunities for the discerning survivor. Understanding the World Map and its various Points of Interest is crucial for efficient progression, resource gathering, and uncovering all the secrets New Dawn has to offer. This section will guide you through navigating the map, identifying key locations, and maximizing your gains from each visit.

Navigating the Map

Access your World Map at any time by pressing the designated map button (typically 'M' on PC, or the Touchpad/View button on console). Here, you'll see a detailed overview of Hope County, revealing areas you've explored and marking various points of interest. Use the zoom and pan functions to get a closer look at specific regions.

  • Fast Travel: Once discovered, Outposts, Expeditions, and Prosperity (your home base) can be fast-traveled to directly from the map. This saves immense time, especially when traversing large distances or returning to base for upgrades.
  • Legend: Pay close attention to the map legend, usually found in a corner of the screen. This will explain the various icons representing different activities, resources, and locations.
  • Uncovering the Map: Initially, large portions of the map will be obscured. Exploring on foot or by vehicle, and completing certain story missions, will gradually reveal more of the landscape. Using vantage points like tall structures or hills can also reveal nearby areas.

Hope County is littered with various locations, each offering unique challenges and rewards. Prioritizing which to visit can significantly impact your progress.

Outposts

These are fortified strongholds controlled by the Highwaymen. Capturing Outposts is a primary way to earn Ethanol, a vital resource for upgrading Prosperity. Each Outpost has three difficulty tiers:

  1. Initial Capture: Clear the Outpost of all Highwaymen. Rewards a significant amount of Ethanol and unlocks it as a fast travel point.
  2. Scavenge: After capturing, you can choose to "Scavenge" the Outpost. This resets the Outpost, allowing Highwaymen to retake it at a higher difficulty (Tier 2). This is an excellent way to farm more Ethanol.
  3. Recapture (Tier 2 & 3): Recapturing a scavenged Outpost offers even greater Ethanol rewards. Tier 3 Outposts are the most challenging but provide the largest payouts.

Strategy Tip: For maximum Ethanol, capture an Outpost stealthily to earn bonus rewards, then immediately Scavenge it. Recapture it at Tier 2, and then again at Tier 3. This cycle is highly efficient for upgrading Prosperity.

Expeditions

Expeditions are off-map missions that take you to unique locations across the USA, such as the Grand Canyon or Alcatraz. These missions are designed for high-tier loot and specialized resources like Components and Circuit Boards, essential for crafting powerful weapons. They are replayable and also scale in difficulty.

  • Access: Expeditions are accessed via the Helicopter Pilot at Prosperity.
  • Objectives: Typically involve locating a package and extracting it while fending off waves of Highwaymen.
  • Rewards: Focus on obtaining Titanium, Carbon Fiber, and other rare crafting materials. The higher the difficulty, the better the rewards.

Treasure Hunts

Marked by a diamond icon on your map, Treasure Hunts are environmental puzzles that lead to a stash of valuable resources and Perk Points. These are often found by interacting with a note or a specific object in the world.

  • Solving Puzzles: Each Treasure Hunt involves deciphering clues, navigating tricky terrain, or solving simple environmental puzzles.
  • Rewards: Expect a cache of crafting materials (e.g., Copper, Duct Tape, Springs), a significant amount of Components, and several Perk Points, which are crucial for unlocking new abilities.
  • Recommended: Always complete Treasure Hunts when you find them. The Perk Points are invaluable for early-game progression.

Resource Locations

Throughout Hope County, you'll find various nodes and caches containing raw materials. These are often marked by specific icons on your map once discovered.

  • Components: Found in small stashes, often in abandoned vehicles, houses, or hidden corners. Essential for crafting and upgrading weapons.
  • Crafting Materials: Look for piles of wood, metal scraps, chemical barrels, and other environmental elements. These provide basic crafting materials like Wood, Metal, and Chemicals.
  • Animal Hunting: The wilderness is teeming with wildlife. Hunting animals provides skins and meat, which are used for crafting and trading. Different animals yield different types of materials (e.g., Bear Skins, Boar Meat).
  • Fishing: Look for fishing spots near bodies of water. Fishing provides fish meat, another valuable crafting and trading resource.

Highwaymen Supply Drops

Periodically, Highwaymen will drop supply crates from planes. These are marked by a smoke signal and a distinct sound cue. Race to these locations quickly, as other Highwaymen patrols will also converge on them.

  • Contents: Supply drops typically contain a good mix of Ethanol, Components, and other crafting materials.
  • Competition: Be prepared for a fight, as you'll often encounter multiple Highwaymen guarding the drop site.
