Recruiting them is a core part of strengthening your community and progressing through the game's story. These unique individuals are often found in precarious situations, requiring you to complete specific missions or challenges to earn their loyalty. The initial quest to find them is part of the main story mission, "Breakthrough," which occurs early in the game after you've established Prosperity.

The game doesn't just hand you these valuable allies; you'll need to actively seek them out, often following clues, interrogating enemies, or clearing out fortified locations. Each Specialist offers a distinct benefit, from crafting advanced weapons to providing medical services or improving your expeditions.

General Approach to Finding Specialists

1. Initiate "Breakthrough": This main story mission will guide you to your first few Specialists. Pay close attention to mission objectives and waypoints.
2. Map Markers: Once "Breakthrough" is active, general areas for Specialists will appear on your map. These are often large zones, not precise locations.
3. Environmental Clues: As you approach the marked area, look for signs of activity: smoke plumes, Highwaymen patrols, unique structures, or distressed civilians.
4. Interrogation: A common method to pinpoint a Specialist's exact location is to interrogate a Highwayman. Perform a non-lethal takedown (melee attack from stealth or behind) and then press the interact button when prompted. This will often reveal a specific building or hideout on your map.
5. Clear the Area: Specialists are rarely found alone. Be prepared to engage in combat with Highwaymen protecting their location. These encounters can range from small skirmishes to full-blown assaults on fortified outposts.
6. Complete Their Task: Once you reach the Specialist, they will usually have a specific request or a mission for you to complete. This could involve rescuing someone, retrieving an item, or defending a location.

Specific Specialists and Their Recruitment

Here's a detailed breakdown of each Specialist, their location, associated mission, and the benefits they bring to Prosperity:

1. Thomas Rush (The Engineer)

• Specialty: Base Upgrades (Expedition, Training Camp, Explosives, Infirmary, Garage, Workbench)
• Recruitment Mission: "Breakthrough" (Main Story)
• Location: Initially found at the beginning of the game, he's the one who brings you to Hope County. His recruitment is automatic as part of the opening sequence.
• Challenge: His initial "recruitment" involves surviving the train crash and making your way to Prosperity.
• Strategy: Simply follow the tutorial prompts. He's your first and most vital ally.

2. Selene (The Herbalist)

• Specialty: Infirmary (Health Kits, Healing, Perk Points)
• Recruitment Mission: "The Prophecy"
• Location: Found in the northern part of the map, specifically in the Ancient Temple ruins.
• Challenge: Selene is being held captive by the Highwaymen. You'll need to infiltrate the temple, which is heavily guarded, and rescue her. The area involves some light platforming and puzzle-solving to navigate the ruins.
• Walkthrough:
  1. Travel to the Ancient Temple marker on your map.
  2. Approach stealthily. There are multiple Highwaymen patrols, snipers, and heavy units.
  3. Look for environmental hazards like explosive barrels to thin out groups.
  4. Navigate through the temple, which involves climbing and jumping across ledges.
  5. Locate Selene, who is usually in a central chamber.
  6. Eliminate all remaining Highwaymen in the area to secure her release.
  7. Speak with Selene to complete the mission and recruit her.
• Recommended Loadout: Silenced weapons for stealth, a bow for silent takedowns, and explosives for groups.
• Common Pitfall: Rushing in can lead to being overwhelmed. Use cover and pick off enemies one by one.

3. Bean (The Cartographer)

• Specialty: Expeditions (Unlocks new destinations, improves rewards)
• Recruitment Mission: "Go With The Flow"
• Location: Found near the Rye & Sons Aviation airstrip, specifically in a small, dilapidated shack or trailer.
• Challenge: Bean is trapped in a water tower, and the Highwaymen have rigged the area with explosives. You need to clear out the enemies and then safely lower him.
• Walkthrough:
  1. Head to Rye & Sons Aviation.
  2. You'll find Bean yelling for help from a water tower.
  3. The area is swarming with Highwaymen. Prioritize taking out snipers and enemies near explosive barrels.
  4. Once the area is clear, interact with the mechanism at the base of the water tower to lower Bean.
  5. Speak with Bean to recruit him.
• Strategy: Use the high ground around the airstrip to your advantage. A sniper rifle can be very effective here. Watch out for enemies attempting to flank you.
• Reward: Access to Expeditions, which are repeatable missions providing valuable resources like Ethanol and rare crafting materials.

4. Grace Armstrong (The Trainer)

• Specialty: Training Camp (Increases health, improves gun for hire abilities)
• Recruitment Mission: "Adventures in Paradise"
• Location: Found at the Old Fort, a heavily fortified Highwaymen outpost.
• Challenge: Grace is being held captive within the Old Fort. This is a full-scale outpost liberation mission. The fort is well-defended with multiple turrets, alarms, and elite Highwaymen.
• Walkthrough:
  1. Travel to the Old Fort.
  2. Scout the perimeter to identify alarms, enemy patrols, and sniper nests.
  3. Prioritize disabling alarms to prevent reinforcements.
  4. Systematically clear the outpost. Stealth is possible but challenging due to the density of enemies.
  5. Locate Grace, who is typically in a central building or bunker within the fort.
  6. Once all enemies are eliminated and the outpost is secured, speak with Grace to recruit her.
• Recommended Loadout: Heavy weapons (LMGs, shotguns) for close-quarters combat, explosives, and a reliable assault rifle. Bring a companion like Timber or Nana for support.

  2. Engage the Highwaymen guarding the compound.

6. Nick Rye & Carmina Rye (The Pilots)

• Location: Nick is found at Rye & Sons Aviation (the same location where you found Bean), but later in the story. Carmina is with him.
• Challenge: This mission involves defending Rye & Sons Aviation from a significant Highwaymen attack. You'll need to protect Nick and Carmina while they prepare to take off.
