Prologue: The Hunt
Welcome, Wenja warrior, to the harsh, untamed lands of Oros! This prologue serves as your vital introduction to survival in Far Cry Primal. Pay close attention, as the skills you learn here will dictate your success against the beasts and rival tribes that roam this primeval world.
The Mammoth Hunt
Your journey begins with a desperate hunt for a Woolly Mammoth. This is a cooperative effort with your fellow Wenja, but your individual actions are crucial.
- Follow the Wenja: Stick close to your hunting party. They will lead you through the initial snowy landscape. Observe their movements and learn to navigate the terrain.
- Gather Resources: As you move, keep an eye out for essential crafting materials.
- Hardwood: Look for fallen branches or small trees. You'll need this for your first weapons.
- Reeds: Found near water sources or in marshy areas. These are vital for crafting arrows.
- Stones: Scattered on the ground. Pick up every one you see; they're used for tools and weapons.
Strategy Tip: Always gather resources when safe to do so. You never know when you'll need to craft on the fly.
- Craft Your First Spear: Once you've gathered enough Hardwood and Stone, the game will prompt you to craft your first Spear. This is your primary melee weapon and a crucial tool for hunting.
- Engage the Mammoth: When the time comes, your tribe will corner the Mammoth.
- Target Weak Points: Aim for the Mammoth's legs or flanks. While it's a massive beast, consistent damage will bring it down.
- Utilize Throwing: Your Spear can be thrown for ranged damage. Hold the attack button to aim and release. Remember to retrieve your spears after throwing them!
- Avoid Charges: The Mammoth's charge is devastating. Dodge out of the way when it lowers its head.
Aftermath and Survival
Even after a successful hunt, danger lurks. The scent of blood attracts predators.
- Fend off Predators: A Saber-toothed Tiger will attack your group. This is your first real test of combat against a fast, aggressive beast.
- Quick Melee: Use your Spear for quick jabs.
- Dodge and Counter: The Saber-tooth is agile. Dodge its attacks and counter immediately.
- Listen for Roars: Animal roars often indicate an impending attack or nearby danger.
- The Journey to Oros: Following the tragic events, you will be separated from your tribe. Your new objective is to find the land of Oros, a rumored haven.
- Follow the Path: The game will guide you along a linear path. Stay on course to avoid getting lost in the wilderness.
- Collect More Resources: Continue to gather Hardwood, Reeds, and Stones. You'll also encounter new resources like Animal Hides from smaller prey, which are essential for crafting clothing and pouches later on.
- Stay Alert: Even small animals can be dangerous if provoked, and larger predators are always a threat. Use your Hunter Vision (activated by pressing the appropriate button) to highlight animals, resources, and enemy tracks.
- First Campfire: You will eventually reach a small cave or sheltered area. This is where you'll light your first Campfire.
- Craft a Club: Use Hardwood to craft a Club. This is a basic but effective melee weapon.
- Rest and Recover: Campfires allow you to pass time (day to night, or vice-versa) and heal minor injuries. They also serve as temporary safe zones.
The prologue concludes as you gaze upon the vast, untamed beauty of Oros. Your true journey as a Wenja leader begins now. Remember the lessons learned: hunt, gather, craft, and survive.
