At the beginning of your journey, you'll create your caravan's first adventurer. There are four distinct races, each with unique starting stats and inherent abilities that influence their playstyle. Choosing wisely can set the tone for your entire playthrough, especially if you plan on a solo adventure or have a specific role in mind for multiplayer.

- Clavat: The most balanced race, excelling in defense and magic. They start with a good all-around stat distribution, making them versatile. Their racial ability, 'Focus Attack', allows them to charge a powerful melee strike. Clavats are excellent for beginners and can adapt to various roles, from tanking to support magic.
- Lilty: Strong and resilient, Lilties are the game's primary melee damage dealers. They have high attack and defense but lower magic stats. Their racial ability, 'Spear Attack', allows them to perform a powerful thrust with their spear. Lilties are ideal for players who enjoy getting up close and personal with enemies.
- Yuke: Masters of magic, Yukes boast high magic stats but are physically weaker. They are essential for casting powerful spells and providing magical support. Their racial ability, 'Magic Attack', allows them to charge a potent magical blast. Yukes are best suited for players who prefer ranged combat and strategic spellcasting.
- Selkie: Agile and quick, Selkies are adept at ranged combat with their bows and daggers. They have high speed and dexterity but lower defense. Their racial ability, 'Dash Attack', allows them to quickly close distances or evade enemies while attacking. Selkies are perfect for players who enjoy hit-and-run tactics and precise aiming.
Beyond race, you'll also choose your character's gender, appearance, and a family trade. The family trade provides a small starting bonus, such as extra Gil, a specific item, or a slight stat boost. While not game-changing, it can offer a minor advantage in the early game. Consider your preferred playstyle and the roles you want to fill when making these choices.
