Unlike traditional defense, Evasion is paramount in Final Fantasy II. A high Evasion stat (boosted by Agility, shields, and light armor) allows characters to completely dodge physical attacks. This is often more effective than simply reducing damage. For your front-row characters, prioritize equipping shields and lighter armor that doesn't penalize Evasion too heavily. Actively try to raise Agility by having characters take turns in battle. The Blink spell, as mentioned, is also a fantastic way to temporarily boost Evasion. A character with high Evasion can effectively tank multiple physical attacks without taking any damage, making them incredibly resilient.
