The legendary Ultima spell, while powerful, is often misunderstood. Its damage scales with the caster's average weapon and magic skill levels. This means that if you've focused on a pure mage build for Maria, her Ultima might be weaker than if she had also leveled some weapon skills. Conversely, a hybrid Firion might cast a stronger Ultima. It also has a very high MP cost. While it can be devastating when properly leveled and cast by a well-rounded character, it's not always the best spell for every situation. Sometimes, a high-level Flare or Scourge from a dedicated Black Mage can be more efficient. Experiment with it, but don't rely on it as a guaranteed one-shot solution unless your party is exceptionally well-developed across the board.
