The Cloud of Darkness is the final boss of Final Fantasy III, a truly formidable foe. She has two tentacles that must be defeated before you can directly attack her. She uses powerful physical attacks, devastating magic (Flare, Holy, Meteor, Quake, Tsunami, Tornado), and her signature attack, 'Particle Beam', which deals massive damage to the entire party and can inflict 'Sap'.

Strategy:

  1. Phase 1: The Tentacles: Focus all your attacks on one tentacle first, then the other. They have high HP but are not as dangerous as the Cloud herself. Use your strongest physical attacks and non-elemental magic.
  2. Phase 2: Cloud of Darkness: Once the tentacles are down, unleash everything you have.
    • Sage: Absolutely essential. Cast 'Curaja' every turn. Use 'Haste' on your physical attackers and 'Protect'/'Shell' on the entire party. If you have a second Sage, they can assist with healing or cast 'Holy'.
    • Knight/Dragoon/Ninja: Your primary damage dealers. Knights should use 'Attack' and 'Cover'. Dragoons should 'Jump'. Ninjas should 'Attack' with dual-wielded ultimate weapons or 'Throw' powerful shurikens.
    • Summoner: Use Bahamut or Leviathan for high non-elemental damage.
  3. General: This is a marathon fight. You will need to use Elixirs to restore MP for your Sages. Equip Ribbons on as many characters as possible to prevent status effects. Keep your HP above 50% at all times. The Cloud of Darkness will revive her tentacles after a few turns, so you'll need to defeat them again. The key is to deal enough damage to the Cloud of Darkness herself before she overwhelms your party. This is the ultimate test of your party's build, equipment, and strategic prowess.
