Garuda is a notoriously difficult boss if you're not prepared. It has high physical attack and can cast powerful Lightning magic (Thundaga) on the entire party. Its main weakness is to Jump attacks from Dragoons, especially when equipped with Spears.

Strategy:

  1. Dragoons (x4): This is the optimal strategy. Have all four characters as Dragoons, equipped with the best Spears you can find (e.g., Wind Spear). Use the 'Jump' command every turn. While jumping, Dragoons are invulnerable to Garuda's attacks, including Thundaga. This allows you to avoid almost all damage while dealing massive damage.
  2. Alternative (if not 4 Dragoons): If you don't have four Dragoons, ensure you have at least two. A White Mage is essential for 'Curaga' and 'Protect' spells. A Black Mage can use 'Aeroga' if you have it, but avoid Lightning spells.
  3. General: If not using the 4-Dragoon strategy, ensure your party has high HP and magic defense. 'Shell' can help reduce Thundaga damage. This battle is a prime example of how specific job strategies can trivialize otherwise difficult encounters.
