Key Items are unique, plot-critical objects that are essential for progressing the main story or unlocking specific side quests. Unlike consumable items, Key Items are never used up and are stored in a separate inventory section. Examples include the Sand Pearl (to cure Rosa), the Magma Stone (to access the Underworld), the Lunar Whale (your ultimate airship), and various crystals. You acquire Key Items through story events, by defeating bosses, or by completing specific objectives. Always check your Key Items inventory if you're unsure how to proceed in the story, as one of them might be the solution. Some Key Items also grant access to new areas or trigger important cutscenes. Keep track of these items, as they are the backbone of your progression through the world of Final Fantasy IV.
