Walkthrough: Baron Castle

Welcome back to Baron Castle! While you've been here before, this visit is far more involved. Prepare for a significant amount of exploration and several key events. Your primary objective is to navigate the castle and eventually confront the King.

Castle Courtyard and Main Hall

  1. Upon entering the castle, you'll find yourself in the familiar courtyard. Take a moment to heal and save if needed.
  2. Head directly into the Main Hall. You'll notice the guards are now hostile.
  3. Optional: Engage in battles with the Baron Guards for some experience and Gil. They are relatively easy to defeat at this point.
  4. Proceed north through the Main Hall towards the throne room.

West Tower Exploration

Before confronting the King, there are valuable items to collect in the castle's towers.

  1. From the Main Hall, take the western staircase up to the second floor.
  2. Enter the door to the West Tower.
  3. 2F West Tower:
    • Head north and then east. You'll find a chest containing a Tent.
    • Continue south and then west to another chest holding a Hi-Potion.
  4. 3F West Tower:
    • Ascend the stairs to the third floor.
    • In the northern part of this floor, locate a chest with a Phoenix Down.
    • Explore the western side for another chest containing a Cottage.
  5. 4F West Tower:
    • Take the stairs up to the fourth floor.
    • In the center of this floor, you'll find a chest with a Mythril Sword. This is a significant upgrade for Cecil if you haven't found a better weapon yet.
  6. Descend the West Tower and return to the Main Hall's second floor.

East Tower Exploration

The East Tower also holds useful treasures.

  1. From the Main Hall's second floor, take the eastern staircase to the East Tower.
  2. 2F East Tower:
    • Move north and then west to find a chest containing 500 Gil.
    • Proceed south and then east for another chest with a Hi-Potion.
  3. 3F East Tower:
    • Go up the stairs to the third floor.
    • In the eastern section, locate a chest holding a Phoenix Down.
    • Check the western side for a chest containing a Bomb Fragment.
  4. 4F East Tower:
    • Ascend to the fourth floor.
    • In the central area, you'll find a chest with a Mythril Helm. Equip this immediately for improved defense.
  5. Descend the East Tower and return to the Main Hall's first floor.

Throne Room Confrontation

  1. Once you've thoroughly explored both towers and collected all items, head back to the Main Hall's first floor.
  2. Proceed north into the Throne Room.
  3. A cutscene will trigger, leading to a confrontation with the King.
  4. Boss Battle: Baigan
    • Strategy: Baigan is a tricky boss. He has two arms that can attack independently and also heal him. Focus your attacks on Baigan himself. When his arms are destroyed, he will regenerate them after a few turns. Use Cecil's Dark Wave or physical attacks, and have your mages cast offensive spells like Fira or Blizzara. Keep your party healed with Cure spells. If you defeat his arms, they will explode and deal damage to your party, so be prepared for that. The key is to defeat Baigan before he can heal too much.
    • Rewards: After defeating Baigan, you'll receive experience and Gil, and the story will progress.
  5. Following the battle, another cutscene will play, revealing important plot details.
  6. You will then be prompted to leave Baron Castle. Your next destination will be determined by the ongoing narrative.
