Walkthrough: Fabul Castle

Welcome to Fabul Castle, the stronghold of the Kingdom of Fabul and the home of the Wind Crystal. Your arrival here marks a pivotal point in the story, and there's much to explore and prepare for. This section will guide you through all the important locations, items, and events within the castle.

Castle Entrance and Courtyard

  • Upon entering, you'll be greeted by the castle guards. Take a moment to speak with the various NPCs in the courtyard. Some may offer hints or flavor text about the current situation.
  • Head directly north through the main gate to enter the castle proper.

Ground Floor Exploration

The ground floor of Fabul Castle offers several rooms to investigate:

  • Left Tower (West):
    • Enter the tower on the left side of the main hall.
    • Ascend the stairs to the second floor of this tower.
    • Here, you'll find a chest containing a Tent.
    • Continue up to the third floor for another chest holding a Potion.
  • Right Tower (East):
    • Enter the tower on the right side of the main hall.
    • Ascend the stairs to the second floor of this tower.
    • You'll discover a chest containing a Phoenix Down.
    • Proceed to the third floor for a final chest holding a Hi-Potion.
  • Inn: Located on the ground floor, usually to the east or west of the main hall. Rest here to fully recover your HP and MP. It's a good idea to do this before proceeding further.
  • Item Shop: Also on the ground floor. Stock up on essential items like Potions, Hi-Potions, Phoenix Downs, and Tents. You'll want to be well-prepared for the upcoming events.
  • Weapon/Armor Shop: Check the equipment available here. While your current gear might be sufficient, there might be slight upgrades for Cecil, Kain, or Rosa, especially if you're playing a version with adjusted stats or equipment. Prioritize defense for Rosa and attack for Cecil and Kain.

Meeting the King and Princess Rosa

  • Proceed to the throne room, usually located at the northernmost part of the ground floor.
  • A cutscene will trigger where you meet the King of Fabul and Princess Rosa. Pay attention to the dialogue, as it sets up the next major plot point.
  • After the initial conversation, Rosa will join your party. Ensure her equipment is optimized for her role as a White Mage.

Preparing for the Assault

Once Rosa has joined, the castle will soon come under attack. Before the battle begins, make sure you've done the following:

  • Healed your party: Use the inn if you haven't already.
  • Stocked up on items: Potions and Phoenix Downs are crucial.
  • Equipped everyone properly: Double-check Cecil, Kain, and Rosa's gear.

Head to the castle walls, typically accessible from the ground floor or a staircase near the throne room. A series of forced encounters will begin as the Red Wings attack. These battles are designed to be challenging but manageable. Focus on taking out enemies quickly and using Rosa's healing spells as needed. Conserve MP where possible, but don't hesitate to use it if a party member is in danger.

The Wind Crystal Chamber

After the initial skirmishes on the walls, you will be directed to the Wind Crystal Chamber. This is where a significant boss battle will occur. Ensure your party is at full health and MP before entering the chamber. The battle ahead is a major turning point, so be ready!
