Walkthrough: Mount Ordeals
After the dramatic events in Fabul, Cecil and his companions find themselves on a pilgrimage to Mount Ordeals to seek redemption and a new path. This treacherous mountain is not for the faint of heart, but with careful preparation and strategic combat, you'll overcome its challenges.
Preparation is Key
Before you even set foot on Mount Ordeals, ensure your party is well-equipped and healed. Stock up on Potions, Hi-Potions, and especially Phoenix Downs. The enemies here can be tough, and having a ready supply of healing items will make a significant difference. Consider equipping Cecil with the best available sword and shield, and make sure Kain has strong spears. Rosa's White Magic will be invaluable, so ensure her MP is full.
Mount Ordeals - Ascent
The path up Mount Ordeals is relatively straightforward, but you'll encounter several new enemy types. Be prepared for:
- Soul: These spectral enemies are vulnerable to Holy-elemental attacks if you have any, but physical attacks work well too. They can cast magic, so try to dispatch them quickly.
- Gargoyle: Flying enemies that can deal decent physical damage. Focus fire on them to take them down before they become a nuisance.
- Spirit: Similar to Souls, these ethereal foes are also susceptible to Holy. They can inflict status effects, so be ready with Esuna or items if needed.
As you ascend, keep an eye out for hidden paths and treasure chests. Exploration is rewarded!
Mount Ordeals - Summit Approach
Continue your climb. The enemies remain consistent, but their numbers might increase, making battles more challenging. Remember to use Rosa's Cure spells to keep your party healthy between fights, and don't hesitate to use Tent or Cabin if you find a safe spot to rest.
Near the summit, you'll encounter a crucial event. Cecil will be confronted by a dark reflection of himself. This is a pivotal moment in the story, and it leads directly into a boss battle.
Boss Battle: Dark Knight
This battle is unique as Cecil must face his past self alone. Your party members will be unable to assist directly. Here's how to approach it:
- Strategy: Do NOT attack the Dark Knight. Instead, focus on defending. Use the "Defend" command repeatedly.
- Cecil's Transformation: After several turns of defending, a cutscene will trigger, and Cecil will undergo a profound transformation, becoming a Paladin. This is not only a story beat but also a significant power-up.
- Aftermath: Once Cecil transforms, the battle ends automatically. You do not need to defeat the Dark Knight in combat.
Congratulations! With Cecil's transformation, Mount Ordeals is conquered, and a new chapter in your adventure begins. You'll gain a powerful new character in Cecil, now a Paladin, with access to White Magic and enhanced stats. Prepare for your next destination, as the world of Final Fantasy IV continues to unfold.
