The shop system in Final Fantasy IX allows you to acquire essential items, equipment, and even unique treasures. Understanding how to buy, sell, and synthesize items can significantly impact your progression and Gil management. Strategic shopping and selling can provide a substantial advantage throughout your journey.
Treno Auction House
In Treno, the auction house offers unique items for bidding. Two items, Feather Boots and the Anklet, are only sold if you do not currently possess them. The third notable item is Dark Matter, which is crucial for teaching Dagger the Odin summon. This item typically costs around 19,000 Gil and is the only way to obtain it outside of defeating the game's superboss.
Selling the Rat Tail
The Rat Tail is an item that can be purchased for approximately 17,000 Gil. Once acquired, you can sell it to the Adventurer located near the Bishop's House. Refuse his initial offer, and you can sell the Rat Tail for a profit of 25,000 Gil.
Synthesis Shop Strategy
The synthesis shop, found by exiting through the top of the Square in Lindblum, allows you to combine items. A profitable strategy involves synthesizing items and then selling them back to any shop. For example, synthesizing and selling Wrists can yield a profit of 610 Gil per item.
Stealing from Steiner
During an early encounter with Steiner, you will engage in a battle where he only performs normal attacks. Focus on stealing two items from him: a Leather Hat and a Silk Shirt, before ending the battle.
