Navigating the vast world of Gaia in Final Fantasy IX relies on several transportation methods, each offering unique advantages for exploration and travel. The primary means of overland travel for much of the game is the Chocobo. Obtained through the "Chocobo Hot & Cold" side quest, Chocobos allow players to traverse the world map more quickly and access hidden "Chocograph" spots, which yield valuable treasures. As you progress in the Chocobo Hot & Cold quest, your Chocobo gains abilities, such as swimming and flying, opening up even more of the world.

- Chocobos: Initially used for faster ground travel, Chocobos evolve through the "Chocobo Hot & Cold" side quest. Later abilities include:
- Choco-Wark: Allows digging at specific spots marked on Chocographs.
- Choco-Swim: Enables crossing shallow bodies of water.
- Choco-Flight: Grants the ability to fly over most terrain, accessing previously unreachable areas and islands.
