Secret Characters & Unlock Methods

Beyond the core members of Clan Nutsy, Ivalice holds a few legendary figures who can join your ranks, each with unique abilities and backstories. Recruiting these secret characters often requires specific quests, precise timing, and sometimes a bit of luck. This section details how to add these powerful allies to your team.

Ezel Berbier (Nu Mou Alchemist)

Ezel is a brilliant, if eccentric, Nu Mou Alchemist known for his powerful abilities and his role in creating the Law Cards. Recruiting him is a multi-step process that unfolds during the main storyline.

Step 1: The Missing Cards
Progress through the main story until you complete the mission "Magic Card." After this, Ezel will appear in the Pub in Sprohm, lamenting the loss of his Law Cards.
Step 2: Tracking Down the Thief
Accept the mission "The Nu Mou and the Law" from the Pub. This mission will lead you to a battle where you confront the thief who stole Ezel's cards. Successfully complete this mission.
Step 3: The Offer
After completing "The Nu Mou and the Law," return to the Pub in Sprohm. Ezel will express his gratitude and, impressed by your clan's abilities, will offer to join your party. Accept his offer to add him to your roster.
Key Strategy: Ezel starts with the Alchemist job, a powerful magic-user with access to potent elemental spells and status effects. His unique ability, "Card," allows him to manipulate the laws of battle, making him incredibly versatile. Ensure you have a strong magic-user already, or be prepared to protect Ezel, as he can be squishy.

Mewt Randell (Human Royal)

Mewt, the prince of Ivalice and the catalyst for the world's current state, can technically "join" your clan in a limited capacity, though he is not a playable unit in battle. His presence is more of a narrative reward.

Step 1: Complete the Main Story
Mewt's "recruitment" is tied directly to the conclusion of the game's main narrative. You must successfully complete the final mission, "The Last Day."
Step 2: Post-Game Interaction
After the credits roll and you save your game, Mewt will be available in the Royal City of Leá Monde. While he won't join your active battle party, you can interact with him. This interaction serves as a narrative epilogue and confirms his place within the restored world.
Note: Mewt is not a combat unit and cannot be deployed in missions. His inclusion is purely for story progression and post-game flavor.

Montblanc (Moogle Black Mage)

Montblanc is your loyal Moogle companion and the first member of Clan Nutsy you meet. While not "secret" in the traditional sense, his permanent inclusion and growth are vital to your journey.

Automatic Recruitment: Montblanc joins your clan automatically during the very first mission of the game, "Herb Picking." There are no special requirements; he is a core part of the story and your initial team.
Key Strategy: Montblanc begins as a Black Mage, making him an excellent early-game magic damage dealer. Invest in his Black Mage abilities and consider transitioning him into a powerful Time Mage or even a Juggler later on for support roles, as Moogles have access to some of the game's most unique and effective support classes.

Ritz Malheur (Viera Fencer)

Ritz, Marche's childhood friend, is a fierce Viera warrior who plays a significant role in the story. Like Montblanc, she is a core character, but her full integration into your clan is tied to story progression.

Automatic Recruitment: Ritz joins your clan temporarily at several points during the main story. Her permanent recruitment occurs after you complete the mission "The Last Day."
Post-Game Recruitment: After finishing the main story and saving your game, Ritz will officially join your clan as a permanent member. You will find her available in the Clan menu.
Key Strategy: Ritz starts as a Fencer, a fast and agile Viera job. She excels at dealing quick physical damage and can learn abilities like "Swallowtail." Consider evolving her into an Elementalist or Assassin for devastating attacks and status effects, or a Red Mage for versatile magic and support.
