Boss Strategies
Welcome, intrepid adventurers, to the comprehensive boss strategies section for Final Fantasy V! This guide will equip you with the knowledge and tactics needed to overcome even the most formidable foes. Remember, preparation is key in this game, so always check your equipment, abilities, and job setups before engaging in a boss battle.
Wing Raptor (Wind Shrine)
Your very first boss encounter! Don't underestimate it, as it can be a rude awakening if you're not careful.
- Recommended Jobs: Freelancer (default), but consider having one character as a Monk for increased HP and physical attack.
- Preparation:
- Ensure all characters have the best available equipment from Tule Village (Broadswords, Leather Shields, Leather Caps, Leather Armor).
- Purchase a few Potions from the Tule Village Item Shop.
- Strategy:
- The Wing Raptor has two main attack patterns: a physical attack and "Talon," which deals slightly more damage.
- Focus all your physical attacks on the Wing Raptor.
- If a character's HP drops below 20, use a Potion.
- This boss is not particularly resistant to magic, but your starting Black Magic spells (Fire, Blizzard, Thunder) are weak and may not be worth the MP cost at this stage. Stick to physical attacks.
- Keep your party's HP topped off. This is a battle of attrition.
- Reward: 100 Gil, 2 ABP.
Siren (Ship Graveyard)
Siren presents a unique challenge, as she shifts between two forms. Understanding her pattern is crucial.
- Recommended Jobs:
- Physical Damage: Monk (Barehanded, Counter), Knight (Guard, Two-Handed).
- Magic Damage/Support: Black Mage (Fire, Thunder), White Mage (Cure, Protect).
- Preparation:
- Equip your party with gear from Carwen. The Bronze Knife for physical attackers, and Iron Shields are good upgrades.
- Purchase a good stock of Potions and a few Phoenix Downs.
- If you have a Black Mage, ensure they have Fire and Thunder learned.
- Strategy:
- Human Form:
- Siren starts in her Human Form. In this form, she is vulnerable to physical attacks.
- She will use magic spells like Blizzard and Thunder. Have your White Mage cast Protect on your party members to reduce physical damage, and use Cure as needed.
- Focus all physical damage on her.
- Undead Form:
- After taking a certain amount of damage, Siren will transform into her Undead Form.
- In this form, she is immune to physical attacks and will counter them with "Doom."
- She is, however, highly vulnerable to healing spells and items.
- Have your White Mage cast Cure on Siren. Each Cure spell will deal significant damage to her.
- Alternatively, use a Phoenix Down on her for instant, massive damage. This is often the quickest way to defeat her in this form.
- She will revert to Human Form after a few turns or enough damage in Undead Form.
- Cycle: The battle will cycle between these two forms. Adapt your strategy accordingly: physical attacks in Human Form, healing spells/items in Undead Form.
- Human Form:
- Reward: 250 Gil, 3 ABP.
Magisa & Forza (North Mountain)
This duo requires careful target prioritization to avoid being overwhelmed.
- Recommended Jobs:
- Damage: Monk (Barehanded, Counter), Knight (Two-Handed), Black Mage (Fire, Thunder).
- Support: White Mage (Cure, Protect, Poisona).
- Preparation:
- Ensure your party has the best equipment from Worus. The Mythril Sword is a good upgrade for Knights.
- Stock up on Potions and a few Antidotes, as Magisa can inflict Poison.
- If you have a Black Mage, ensure they have Fire and Thunder learned.
- Strategy:
- Target Magisa First! Magisa is the spellcaster and can deal significant damage with her magic (Fire, Thunder, Blizzard) and inflict status effects like Poison. Forza is primarily a physical attacker.
- Focus all your physical and magical attacks on Magisa until she is defeated.
- Have your White Mage cast Protect on your party. Use Cure as needed, and be ready with Antidotes or Poisona if anyone gets poisoned.
- Once Magisa is down, Forza becomes much less threatening. He will continue with physical attacks.
- Finish off Forza with your remaining party members.
- Reward: 500 Gil, 4 ABP.
