Character Creation and Party Management — Final Fantasy V Guide

Manage your party effectively in Final Fantasy V by understanding the unique Job System and character roles within your four-person party.

·Multi-source verified (81/81)

Unlike some other RPGs, Final Fantasy V does not feature traditional character creation. Your party consists of four fixed protagonists: Bartz Klauser, Lenna Charlotte Tycoon, Galuf Halm Baldesion, and Faris Scherwiz. Each character has their own personality and story arc, but their combat roles are entirely determined by the Job System.

Managing Your Party

You will always control a party of four characters. The game automatically assigns them to your active party as they join. There's no 'reserve' party to manage; everyone participates in battles and gains experience and AP. This simplifies party management, allowing you to focus on job progression.

Initial Character Stats

While characters don't have unique starting classes, they do have slight differences in their base stats, though these differences become negligible as you progress and gain job-specific stat bonuses. For example, Bartz often has slightly higher Strength, while Lenna might have higher Magic. However, the Job System allows you to mold any character into any role effectively.

Naming Characters

At the beginning of the game, you'll have the option to rename Bartz. Later, you'll also have the opportunity to rename the other main characters. This is purely cosmetic and does not affect gameplay. Choose names you like, or stick with the defaults for the classic experience.
