Tule Village and Ship Graveyard
After the dramatic events at the Wind Shrine and the acquisition of your initial Job Classes, your journey continues. The next major objective is to reach the Water Crystal, which is located in the distant Worus region. Your path will take you through the quaint Tule Village and the treacherous Ship Graveyard.
Tule Village: A Brief Respite
From the Pirate's Hideout, set sail directly west across the ocean. You'll soon spot a small settlement nestled by the coast – this is Tule Village. It's a peaceful place, offering a chance to rest and prepare for the challenges ahead.
- Arrival: Dock your ship and enter the village.
- Exploration:
- Inn: Rest here to fully restore HP/MP and save your game.
- Item Shop: Stock up on essential items. Ensure you have a good supply of Potions and a few Phoenix Downs.
- Weapon Shop: Upgrade your gear if needed. The Broadsword for Butz/Galuf and the Dagger for Lenna/Faris are good choices if you haven't already acquired them.
- Elder's House: Located in the northern part of the village. Enter for a short scene where you'll learn more about the world's plight and the importance of the Crystals.
- NPC Interactions: Speak to the villagers for lore and hints.
Recommended Purchases:
| Item Type | Recommended Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Potion | 10-15 | Essential for in-battle healing. |
| Phoenix Down | 3-5 | Revives fallen allies. Crucial for boss fights. |
| Tent | 2-3 | Full HP/MP recovery and save point on the world map. |
| Antidote | 5 | For poison status, though less common in this area. |
The Ship Graveyard: A Watery Tomb
Once you're prepared in Tule Village, head south-west from the village on the world map. You'll soon encounter a desolate area filled with the wreckage of ships – this is the Ship Graveyard. This dungeon is your first real test of teamwork and strategy.
Objective: Navigate through the sunken ships to find a way forward.
- Entrance: Upon entering, you'll be on a small patch of land. Head north into the first ship wreckage.
- Navigation: The Ship Graveyard is a maze of interconnected ship hulls and submerged passages. Pay attention to the paths; some lead to dead ends with treasure, others progress the dungeon.
- Look for glowing spots on the ground – these are often hidden items or switches.
- Some areas require you to walk across narrow beams or jump between ship parts.
- Key Item: You'll eventually find a World Map item. This is a crucial key item that allows you to view the entire world map, making navigation much easier.
Ship Graveyard Enemies and Strategies
The monsters here can be challenging if you're not careful. Status effects are a common threat.
- Skeleton: Undead type. Weak to Fire and Holy spells. Can inflict 'Poison'.
- Ghoul: Undead type. Weak to Fire and Holy. Can inflict 'Paralyze', which is very dangerous. Prioritize defeating them quickly.
- Stingray: Aquatic type. No specific elemental weakness, but susceptible to physical attacks.
- Zombie: Undead type. Weak to Fire and Holy. Can inflict 'Zombie' status, which turns healing spells into damage. Use Phoenix Down as an instant kill on them if you have a White Mage with the ability.
Recommended Job Setup for Ship Graveyard:
- Butz: Knight (for high HP and defense) or Monk (for high physical damage).
- Lenna: White Mage (essential for healing and Esuna).
- Galuf: Black Mage (for Fire spells against undead and area-of-effect damage).
- Faris: Thief (for Steal and high speed) or Monk (for additional physical damage).
Important Tips:
- Healing: Keep your White Mage active. Use Cure frequently.
- Status Effects: If a character gets Paralyzed, use Esuna (White Mage) or a Potion (if you don't have Esuna yet, though Esuna is highly recommended).
- Undead: Exploit their weakness to Fire and Holy. A Black Mage's Fire spell is very effective.
- AP Grinding: This is an excellent area to gain Ability Points (AP) for your initial jobs. Aim to master core abilities like Cure (White Mage), Fire (Black Mage), and Steal (Thief).
Ship Graveyard Treasures
Be diligent in exploring every nook and cranny. Many treasures are hidden off the main path.
- Potion x3
- Tent x2
- Phoenix Down x2
- Broadsword (often found early, good upgrade)
- Leather Cap
- World Map (Key Item)
- Elixir (often in a harder-to-reach chest)
Boss Battle: Siren
At the deepest part of the Ship Graveyard, you'll encounter the boss of this area, Siren.
- HP: Approximately 500 (Note: This can vary slightly between versions).
- Weakness:
- Human Form: Fire
- Monster Form: Holy (or healing spells like Cure)
- Abilities:
- Charm: Can confuse a party member, causing them to attack allies.
- Poison: Inflicts poison status.
- Physical Attacks: Moderate damage.
Siren Strategy:
Siren is a unique boss because she shifts between two forms, each with different weaknesses. Your strategy must adapt to her current state.
- Preparation:
- Ensure all characters have full HP and MP. Use a Tent if necessary before the fight.
- Assign a White Mage for healing and Esuna.
- Assign a Black Mage for Fire spells.
- Equip your strongest weapons on physical attackers.
- Human Form (Initial):
- Siren starts in her human form. In this state, she is vulnerable to Fire spells. Have your Black Mage cast Fire repeatedly.
- Physical attackers should focus on dealing damage.
- Your White Mage should keep the party healed and use Esuna immediately if anyone is Charmed or Poisoned.
- Monster Form:
- After taking a certain amount of damage, Siren will transform into her monstrous form.
- In this form, she is an Undead type. This means she is weak to Holy magic (which you likely don't have yet) and, crucially, healing spells!
- Have your White Mage cast Cure on Siren. This will deal significant damage to her.
- Continue with physical attacks.
- Be vigilant for Charm and Poison, and heal/cure status effects promptly.
- Repeat: Siren will switch between forms periodically. Adapt your attacks accordingly. Focus on Fire in human form and Cure/Holy in monster form.
Reward: After defeating Siren, you'll receive some Gil and AP. The path forward will open.
After the Ship Graveyard: Towards Worus
Upon exiting the Ship Graveyard, you'll find yourself on the opposite side of the continent. Your next destination is the Worus region, where the Water Crystal awaits.
- Immediate Objective: Head east from the Ship Graveyard exit. You'll quickly come across a small town and a prominent tower. This is Worus Village and Worus Tower.
- Important Note on Jobs: The Monk and Thief jobs are obtained much earlier in the game, specifically after the Wind Crystal shatters at the Wind Shrine. If you do not have these jobs, you've missed a critical early game event and should review previous sections. Worus Tower is related to the Water Crystal, not the initial job acquisition.
Prepare for your next adventure in the Worus region, where new challenges and revelations about the Crystals await!
