Strago's Lore Ability Guide
Master the art of Lore with Strago, a wise old mage whose unique ability allows him to learn enemy magic. This guide details how to acquire and effectively utilize Strago's Lores, turning him into a versatile and powerful spellcaster capable of replicating devastating enemy attacks.
Strago's Lore ability is learned by witnessing an enemy use a specific magic spell. Once witnessed, Strago can then learn and cast that spell himself. This makes him incredibly adaptable, as he can learn a wide array of offensive, defensive, and status-inflicting spells from various enemies throughout the game. The key to maximizing Strago's potential lies in strategically encountering and learning the most useful Lores.
Here are some of the most valuable Lores to acquire and their locations:
- Aqua Rake: Learned from various water-based enemies, such as the Anguilla in the Serpent Trench. A useful water-elemental attack.
- Grand Train: Learned from the Doom Gaze (a rare enemy that appears on the World Map in the World of Ruin). A powerful non-elemental attack.
- Big Guard: Learned from the Templar in the Imperial Base or the Guardian in Kefka's Tower. Essential for providing party-wide Shell and Protect.
- Mighty Guard: Learned from the Behemoth in the World of Ruin. A superior version of Big Guard, offering Shell, Protect, and Haste.
- White Wind: Learned from the Mu in the Phantom Forest or the Unicorn Esper. Heals the party for a percentage of Strago's current HP.
- Rallying: Learned from the Dragon Fang in the Dragon's Den. Inflicts Berserk on all enemies.
- Stone: Learned from enemies like the Gargoyle. Can petrify enemies, useful for disabling tough foes.
- Doom: Learned from enemies like the Undead. Inflicts instant death.
- Napalm: Learned from the Flame Archdemon in Kefka's Tower. A powerful fire-based attack.
- Roulette: Learned from the Undead or other death-dealing enemies. A risky but potentially devastating instant-death spell.
To learn a Lore, ensure Strago is in your active party when the enemy casts the spell. If Strago is KO'd, he will not learn it. Some Lores are learned from very rare or specific enemies, so patience and strategic encounters are necessary. The Dinosaur Forest and Kefka's Tower in the World of Ruin are excellent places to hunt for powerful Lores.
Consider equipping Strago with relics that boost his Magic Power or MP, such as the Economizer or Celestriad, to make his learned spells even more potent. His ability to learn and cast a wide variety of spells makes him an invaluable asset to any party, especially against bosses with unique attack patterns.
