Character Abilities & Commands
Understanding each character's unique abilities and commands is crucial for mastering Final Fantasy VI's combat system. While every character can use the standard "Attack" and "Item" commands, their specialized skills define their roles and strategic value in your party. This section will detail each character's exclusive command, how to best use it, and any specific items or locations tied to its enhancement.
Terra Branford: Trance
- Ability Description: Terra's unique command, "Trance," allows her to temporarily transform into her Esper form. In this state, her Magic Power and Magic Defense stats are significantly boosted, and any magic she casts will deal increased damage. This transformation lasts for a set number of turns, indicated by a glowing aura around her character sprite.
- Strategic Use:
- Burst Damage: Activate Trance when facing tough bosses or large groups of enemies susceptible to magic. Combine it with powerful offensive spells like Firaga, Blizzaga, or Thundaga for devastating results.
- Defensive Boost: While primarily offensive, the Magic Defense boost can be invaluable against magic-heavy enemies, reducing incoming damage to Terra.
- Timing is Key: Since Trance has a limited duration, try to activate it at the start of a boss fight or when you anticipate a critical turn where high magical output is needed. Don't waste turns activating it if the battle is almost over.
- Acquisition & Enhancement: Terra has access to Trance from the very beginning of the game. Its effectiveness scales with her Magic Power stat and the power of the spells she casts. Equipping Espers like Ramuh, Siren, or Maduin will help her learn powerful Black Magic spells and provide stat bonuses to further enhance her magical prowess.
