These stats determine a character's chance to completely avoid incoming attacks, offering a vital layer of defense against both physical and magical threats.

Evasion dictates a character's likelihood of dodging a physical attack. The higher a character's Evasion stat, the greater their chance of completely avoiding damage from weapons, claws, and other physical assaults. This stat is primarily influenced by equipment. Certain armor pieces, shields, and accessories provide significant Evasion bonuses. Building a party with high Evasion can make them incredibly resilient to physical damage, allowing them to withstand prolonged assaults from powerful enemies. However, Evasion does not affect magical attacks or certain special enemy abilities that bypass normal defenses.

Magic Evasion, on the other hand, governs a character's chance to dodge magical attacks. This stat is generally much lower and harder to raise than physical Evasion. While some equipment might offer minor boosts to Magic Evasion, it's not as readily available or as impactful as Evasion bonuses. Consequently, relying solely on Magic Evasion for defense against spells is often impractical. Instead, players typically rely on other defensive measures for magical threats, such as the Shell spell, elemental resistances, or simply out-damaging the enemy before they can unleash their most potent spells.

Strategic application of these mechanics involves equipping characters with the best available gear to maximize their Evasion. For characters who are frequently targeted by physical attacks, prioritizing Evasion-boosting equipment is essential. While Magic Evasion is less reliable, any increase can be beneficial against magic-heavy enemies. It's also worth noting that certain status effects, like Blind, can significantly reduce a character's Evasion, making them more susceptible to physical hits.
