Critical Hits & Evasion

In the strategic combat of Final Fantasy VI, understanding the mechanics of critical hits and evasion is paramount for both offensive and defensive success. These elements can significantly influence battle outcomes, turning the tide in your favor or leaving you vulnerable to enemy assaults.

Critical hits are attacks that deal double damage. They occur randomly when a character attacks, with the chance of landing a critical hit influenced by the character's Strength stat and certain equipment. While not directly controllable, increasing your party's Strength and equipping weapons with a higher critical hit rate can improve the frequency of these powerful blows. Critical hits bypass enemy defenses, making them an invaluable tool for quickly dispatching tougher foes or dealing significant damage when you need it most. Some abilities or spells may also have a higher chance of inflicting critical hits.

Evasion, on the other hand, is a defensive stat that determines a character's chance to completely dodge an incoming physical attack. The higher a character's Evasion stat, the less likely they are to be hit by physical blows. This stat can be increased through equipment, such as certain armor and accessories. Magic Evade is a separate stat that governs the chance to dodge magical attacks, though it is generally much lower and harder to raise than physical Evasion. Building a party with high Evasion can make them incredibly resilient to physical damage, allowing them to withstand prolonged assaults. However, it's important to remember that Evasion does not affect magical attacks or certain special enemy abilities.
