Bestiary / Enemy List
Welcome to the comprehensive Bestiary for Final Fantasy VI! This section details every foe you'll encounter across the World of Balance and the World of Ruin, from common grunts to formidable bosses. Understanding your enemies is key to mastering the game's combat system, optimizing your party, and ensuring you don't miss out on valuable items or Rage/Lore opportunities.
How to Use This Bestiary
Each entry provides critical information to help you conquer the challenges ahead:
- Enemy Name: The official in-game name.
- Location(s): Where you can find this enemy. Note that some enemies are exclusive to specific areas or appear only during certain story segments.
- HP / MP: Their health and magic points.
- Weaknesses: Elemental or status vulnerabilities. Exploit these for maximum damage!
- Resistances / Immunities: What they shrug off or are completely unaffected by. Don't waste turns on these!
- Steal (Common / Rare): Items you can pilfer using Locke's Steal command. Prioritize rare steals for unique gear or consumables.
- Drops (Common / Rare): Items they might leave behind after battle.
- Rage (Gau): If Gau can learn their Rage ability. Essential for completing Gau's skillset.
- Lore (Strago): If Strago can learn a Lore spell from them. Make sure Strago is in your party and has the "Learn" command active!
- Strategy: Recommended tactics, character abilities, and magic to use against them.
Early Game Encounters (World of Balance)
Here's a breakdown of some of the first enemies you'll face, along with strategies to get you started:
Narshe Mines & Surroundings
Guard
- Location(s): Narshe Mines (Prologue), Narshe (later)
- HP / MP: 30 / 10
- Weaknesses: Fire
- Resistances / Immunities: None
- Steal (Common / Rare): Potion / Tonic
- Drops (Common / Rare): Potion / None
- Rage (Gau): No
- Lore (Strago): No
- Strategy: These are basic Imperial soldiers. Early on, Terra's Fire Beam (Magitek skill) or basic physical attacks from Vicks and Wedge will suffice. Later, any Fire magic or physical attacks will dispatch them quickly.
Repo Man
- Location(s): Narshe Mines (Prologue)
- HP / MP: 35 / 10
- Weaknesses: Fire
- Resistances / Immunities: None
- Steal (Common / Rare): Potion / Tonic
- Drops (Common / Rare): Potion / None
- Rage (Gau): No
- Lore (Strago): No
- Strategy: Similar to Guards, they pose little threat. Focus on physical attacks or Terra's Fire Beam.
Figaro Castle & Desert
Hornet
- Location(s): Figaro Desert
- HP / MP: 40 / 10
- Weaknesses: Wind
- Resistances / Immunities: None
- Steal (Common / Rare): Potion / Antidote
- Drops (Common / Rare): Potion / None
- Rage (Gau): Yes (Stinger)
- Lore (Strago): No
- Strategy: Hornets can inflict Poison with their "Stinger" attack. Keep Antidotes handy or use Edgar's Tools like the Bio Blaster to inflict Poison back. Wind-elemental attacks (if you have them) are effective.
Sand Ray
- Location(s): Figaro Desert
- HP / MP: 60 / 15
- Weaknesses: Ice, Water
- Resistances / Immunities: Fire
- Steal (Common / Rare): Potion / Tent
- Drops (Common / Rare): Potion / None
- Rage (Gau): Yes (Sandstorm)
- Lore (Strago): No
- Strategy: These creatures are vulnerable to Ice and Water. Terra's Blizzard spell (if she has it equipped via an Esper) or Edgar's Auto Crossbow are good choices. Avoid Fire attacks as they resist it.
South Figaro Cave
Dark Side
- Location(s): South Figaro Cave
- HP / MP: 50 / 10
- Weaknesses: Fire, Holy
- Resistances / Immunities: Dark
- Steal (Common / Rare): Potion / Eye Drops
- Drops (Common / Rare): Potion / None
- Rage (Gau): Yes (Blaster)
- Lore (Strago): No
- Strategy: These spectral enemies are weak to Fire and Holy. Terra's Fire spell or Locke's physical attacks work well. Be wary of their "Blaster" attack, which can inflict instant death.
Heavy Armor
- Location(s): South Figaro Cave
- HP / MP: 100 / 20
- Weaknesses: Lightning, Water
- Resistances / Immunities: Fire, Ice
- Steal (Common / Rare): Iron Helm / Iron Shield
- Drops (Common / Rare): Potion / None
- Rage (Gau): Yes (Magitek Laser)
- Lore (Strago): No
- Strategy: These armored foes have higher HP. Target their Lightning or Water weaknesses. Edgar's Auto Crossbow is effective, and if you have access to Thunder or Water magic, use it. They can use "Magitek Laser," so keep an eye on your party's HP.
Boss Encounters (World of Balance)
Bosses require more strategic planning. Always save before a boss fight!
Tunnel Armor
- Location(s): South Figaro Cave
- HP / MP: 1600 / 200
- Weaknesses: Lightning, Water
- Resistances / Immunities: Fire, Ice
- Steal (Common / Rare): Mythril Claw / Mythril Knife
- Drops (Common / Rare): Potion / None
- Rage (Gau): No
- Lore (Strago): No
- Strategy: This is your first major boss. It's essentially a souped-up Heavy Armor. Focus on its Lightning and Water weaknesses. Edgar's Auto Crossbow is your best friend here, dealing consistent damage. Terra should cast Thunder or Blizzard (if she has them) or use Fire Beam. Locke should attack physically or use Steal to try for the Mythril Claw for Sabin or Mythril Knife for himself. Keep your party healed with Potions. The Tunnel Armor uses "Magitek Laser" and "Fire Beam," so manage your HP carefully.
