Reuniting the Party

Detailed guide on how to find and recruit all scattered party members in Final Fantasy VI's World of Ruin.

Reuniting the Party in the World of Ruin

After the cataclysmic events of the World of Balance, the world has been reshaped, and your former allies are scattered across the globe. The World of Ruin presents a daunting task of reassembling your legendary party. This section details the locations and methods for recruiting key characters, focusing on the critical steps to bring them back into your fold. Prioritizing these reunions will significantly bolster your strength against the formidable challenges that lie ahead.

Core Party Member Recruitment

Several of your most trusted companions are essential for progressing through the World of Ruin. Here's how to find and recruit them:

Edgar Roni Figaro

Edgar, the resourceful king of Figaro, remains loyal to his kingdom. He can be found within his own castle, which has been moved to the desert.

  1. Location: Figaro Castle (Desert).
  2. Objective: Speak with Edgar inside the castle. He will be concerned about the castle's current state and will agree to rejoin your party.
  3. Notes: This is a straightforward recruitment. Ensure you have explored Figaro Castle thoroughly before speaking with Edgar, as there are items and information to be gathered.

Sabin Rene Figaro

Sabin, the powerful martial artist and Edgar's twin brother, can be found testing his strength in a gladiatorial arena.

  1. Location: The Coliseum (located on the northern continent, west of Maranda).
  2. Objective: Enter the Coliseum and challenge the fighter known as "The"?:".
  3. Encounter: You will face a series of opponents. The final opponent is a disguised Gau. After defeating Gau, Sabin will reveal himself and join your party.
  4. Strategy: Sabin is a formidable fighter. Ensure your party is well-equipped and at a decent level. Gau's attacks can be unpredictable, so be prepared for several elemental and physical assaults.

Locke Cole

Locke, the charming rogue and treasure hunter, can be found in South Figaro, a town that has seen better days.

  1. Location: South Figaro (town).
  2. Objective: Enter South Figaro and speak with the townspeople. You will learn that Locke is hiding and is looking for a way to help the town.
  3. Quest: Navigate through the town, dealing with the Imperial soldiers who have taken over. Eventually, you will find Locke in a house on the second floor, near the item shop. He will join your party after a brief conversation about the town's plight.
  4. Notes: South Figaro is a good place to restock on supplies. Be aware that some areas may be blocked by soldiers, requiring you to find alternative routes.

Setzer Gabbiani

Setzer, the daring gambler and airship captain, can be found challenging fate in a coliseum.

  1. Location: Dragon's Neck Coliseum (located on the western continent, accessible by airship).
  2. Objective: Enter the Dragon's Neck Coliseum. You will find Setzer preparing for a match.
  3. Encounter: Setzer will initially refuse to join you, believing he is destined to win the World Champion title. To recruit him, you must defeat him in a battle within the coliseum.
  4. Strategy: Setzer is a skilled opponent who uses his Slot Edge ability. Ensure your party has strong defenses and is prepared for his powerful attacks. Defeating him will convince him of the dire situation and he will join your cause.

Optional Character Recruitment

Beyond the core members, several other characters can be recruited, each offering unique skills and playstyles. These characters often require more extensive exploration or specific conditions to be met.

Shadow

Shadow, the enigmatic ninja, has a unique recruitment condition tied to his fate.

  1. Location: Narshe (during the World of Ruin).
  2. Objective: Speak with the innkeeper in Narshe. He will mention that Shadow is often seen around the town.
  3. Encounter: You will need to find Shadow, who is often found near the mine entrance or wandering the town. He will initially refuse to join, stating he is waiting for someone.
  4. Critical Condition: Shadow's recruitment is tied to the Esperzo raid on Narshe. If you do not wait for Shadow at the cave entrance during the raid in the World of Balance (when he is supposed to leave with Terra), he will be permanently gone. If you successfully waited for him, he will be found in Narshe in the World of Ruin and will join your party.
  5. Strategy: Shadow's Throw command is incredibly powerful, especially with rare items like Shurikens. His unique abilities make him a valuable asset for dealing high damage.

Gogo

Gogo, the master of mimicry, can be found in a peculiar location.

  1. Location: South Figaro Caves (accessible from the World of Ruin).
  2. Objective: Navigate through the South Figaro Caves, which are now more accessible.
  3. Encounter: Deep within the caves, you will find a treasure chest. Interacting with it will reveal Gogo, who is disguised as a treasure chest. He will express his admiration for your party and offer to join, showcasing his ability to mimic any party member's abilities.
  4. Strategy: Gogo's strength lies in his Mimic command, allowing him to replicate the actions of any other party member. This makes him incredibly versatile, but he requires a well-rounded party to truly shine.

Umaro

Umaro, the wild and powerful yeti, resides in the snowy northern regions.

  1. Location: Narshe (mines).
  2. Objective: Enter the Narshe mines.
  3. Encounter: You will find Umaro in the mines. He is initially hostile. To recruit him, you must defeat him in battle.
  4. Strategy: Umaro is a physical powerhouse with high HP and attack power. He cannot equip any equipment, but his innate abilities and raw strength make him a formidable ally. He also has a unique "Snowstorm" ability that can hit all enemies.
  5. Prerequisite: Ensure you have recruited Mog from Narshe during the World of Balance. Mog's presence is often considered a prerequisite for Umaro's recruitment, as he can communicate with or appease the yeti.

Optional Dungeons and Their Significance

While not directly tied to recruitment, certain optional dungeons hold valuable items and lore.

Phoenix Cave

The Phoenix Cave is an optional dungeon filled with powerful enemies and valuable treasures, most notably the Phoenix Esper.

Location: Accessible via airship on an island in the northern ocean.

Significance: This dungeon is NOT where Locke is recruited. It is a challenging area that rewards players with the Phoenix Esper, which teaches the Life 3 (Reraise) spell, and other potent items.

Strategy: Be prepared for a long and difficult dungeon. Enemies here hit hard, and there are several mini-bosses. The Phoenix Esper is a game-changing reward, so it's highly recommended to tackle this dungeon once your party is strong enough.
