Hard Mode in Final Fantasy VII Remake sificantly ramps up the challenge, restricting item usage and increasing enemy difficulty. Success hinges on mastering Materia combinations, character synergy, and efficient MP management. This section provides strategic insights for navigating the game's chapters on Hard Mode, focusing on optimal loadouts and tactics to overcome the toughest encounters.

A recurring theme for Hard Mode is the potent combination of MP Absorption Materia linked with offensive spells, and Magnify Materia linked with the same elemental spell. This allows you to replenish MP as you deal damage, effectively granting you infinite MP for spellcasting. Cloud often serves as the primary magic user in this setup, while Tifa can act as an ATB builder and Synergy spammer.

For Chapter 9, the Corneo Tournament requires careful elemental exploitation. Fire is effective against the first two opponents, while Lightning is best for the third. The Hell House boss is a sificant challenge; ensure Aerith has various elemental Materia equipped, and Cloud should have Synergy and HP Up Materia. Prioritize exploiting Hell House's elemental weaknesses as it changes forms.

In Chapter 10, after the Abzu fight, the MP Absorption + Magnify combo with Aerith and Synergy Cloud remains highly effective. Tifa can focus on building ATB and triggering Synergy. For the Abzu boss itself, Aerith with Synergy + Fire and Cloud/Tifa with Elemental + Fire on their weapons is a strong setup. Chain Focused Strikes and watch Aerith deal massive damage.

Chapter 11 introduces the Ghoul and Eligor. Synergy Materia doesn't work on Ghoul, but it's not essential. Focus on dodging its debris attacks and Piercing Scream, then capitalize on its staggered state. For Eligor, Ice damage is effective due to its pressure-inducing nature. Prioritize destroying its wheels when it's on the ground, using Lightning or Wind magic.

Chapter 12 continues the trend of using Cloud as a fire magnifier and Tifa with Elemental + Fire. These setups will carry you through most encounters until the Reno & Rude fight. Be prepared to use Fira or Firaga to quickly dispatch enemies and conserve MP where possible. Remember that HP and MP refill between chapters, but items do not on Hard Mode.
