Magic Materia
Magic Materia is the backbone of offensive and supportive spellcasting in Final Fantasy VII Remake. These Materia grant access to a wide array of spells, from devastating elemental attacks to crucial healing and status-altering effects. Equipping Magic Materia to your characters allows them to harness the planet's Mako energy, turning the tide of battle with potent magical assaults and vital restorative abilities.
The most common Magic Materia are the elemental spells: Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder. As these Materia level up, they evolve into more powerful versions like Fira, Firaga, Blizzara, Blizzaga, Thundara, and Thundaga, each dealing increased damage and affecting a wider area. These are essential for exploiting enemy weaknesses, as most foes have specific elemental affinities.
Healing Materia, such as Cure, Cura, and Curaga, are indispensable for party survival. They restore HP, allowing your characters to withstand prolonged battles. Esuna Materia is equally vital for removing negative status effects like Poison, Silence, or Sleep that can cripple your party.
Other important Magic Materia include Time Materia, which grants access to Haste (speeding up ATB regeneration) and Slow (hindering enemy actions), and Barrier Materia, which provides defensive buffs like Protect and Shell. These spells can sificantly alter the pace of combat, offering strategic advantages.
Enemy Skill Materia is unique, allowing characters to learn special abilities by being hit by specific enemy attacks. These learned skills can range from powerful offensive spells to unique support abilities, adding a sificant layer of customization to your party's magical arsenal. Acquiring a diverse set of Enemy Skills is highly recommended for tackling challenging encounters.
The effectiveness of Magic Materia can be greatly amplified by linking it with Support Materia. For instance, linking Magnify Materia with an offensive spell turns it into an area-of-effect attack, perfect for crowd control. Elemental Materia, when linked to a weapon, adds elemental damage to physical attacks, while linking it to armor grants resistance to that element. Warding Materia, when linked to offensive spells, can grant immunity to status ailments during casting.
