Items & Equipment
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered offers various valuable items and equipment that can significantly enhance your gameplay, from teaching Guardian Forces new abilities to optimizing character stats. While basic curatives are always useful, certain rare items are crucial for min-maxing and advanced strategies. These can often be acquired through side quests or specific enemy encounters.
To obtain rare items, consider undertaking the following side quests:
- Obel Lake Quest
- UFO Quest
- Queen of Cards Quest
For players with the Steam version of Final Fantasy VIII, Chocobo World provides a faster method for earning items compared to Angelo Rush. If you choose to use Angelo Search, a strategy involves confusing a Turtapod to keep it in defensive mode, allowing for idle gains before defeating it to collect items.
Another key item for min-maxing is the Curse Spike, obtainable from Tri-Face enemies in fixed encounters. You can Mug up to 8x Curse Spikes from a single Tri-Face (higher levels yield more). 100x Curse Spikes can be refined into Dark Matter, which in turn refines into rare items such as:
- Shaman Stones
- Luck-J Scrolls (can be refined into Luck Ups, the primary method for boosting Luck)
- Rosetta Stones (useful for teaching GFs Abilityx4)
- Ultima (alternative to drawing from Islands Closest to Heaven/Hell or Shumi Village)
- Hero-Trial items
To reliably encounter Tri-Face enemies for Curse Spikes, aim to have Zell open the door to the excavation site. This location provides repeatable fixed encounters, making it an ideal spot for farming these valuable items.
